I started Flagyl today--but a 2g dose. My ND only gave me a 5 day supply, which I felt wasn't enough, SO I went to the County STD clinic (which I had never been to) and had them run all the tests. Gave a story that I had been exposed to Trich (which is a parasite) and they had to treat me even though I obviously did NOT have it.
So they gave me the 2G of Flagyl in the office WITH NO FOOD! I said, "Hey, I'm supposed to take this WITH FOOD!" Nurse replies, "Yes, well, you better go eat something after you leave here!"
Anyway, the last few hours I have felt terribly! I have been napping for the past three hours. I have flu-like symptoms:
fever
exhaustion
body aches
tender lymph glands
Plus menstrual cramping and it is not my time! Perhaps that is from the rigorous examination I got for everything else which SHOULD come up negative? Though of course they said I had HIGH yeast infection! Surprise, surprise! They also are going to get to the bottom of my ongoing UTI/bladder infection and see just which med will be best for it--if these folks can't figure it out...I'm actually glad I went there. Everything, the visit, all your meds and tests, all for $15 - for everyone!
Surprisingly, I do not have any gastric symptoms which are common side effects for Flagyl and for me!
Has anyone else had a rough time with Flagyl? Ever take 2g at once? Will I see anything in the toilet?

I took it the first time I went to the Dr. with a bowl problem.
It won't kill any visible parasite.
I didn't have any bad effects (any worse than I was having).

MoreThis is a reply to # 1,460,852This was a 2G one time dose compared to the usual 500mg at a time for parasite dosing which I will begin tomorrow 2x per day for 5 days. (2G for my "bogus" trich; the 500mg 2x per day for 5 days for my intestinal parasites).
Thanks, I already knew about the alcohol--I don't drink anyway. Haven't been able to tolerate alcohol for years!

This is a reply to # 1,460,863Read the fine print of the insert included with the Flagyl prescription. It is almost guaranteed to cause Candida overgrowth.
In my opinion, Flagyl is about the worst drug you can put in your body. I've mentioned this a thousand times now.

This is a reply to # 1,460,837yes reports about flagyl hitting hard have been around - remember this is an Antibiotic so load up on probiotics especially since you have yeast. try some colostrum to help the gut heal it provides many good things. Lineup, would it also help if I started taking L-Glutamine for my Leaky Gut? Previously when my diarrhea and vomiting were more acute, my ND said it would not help since it would not stay in my system, but by comparison, I am more stable now. Thoughts?

This is a reply to # 1,460,837The longer you take it, the more the side effects will kick in. It usually starts with the bad taste in mouth, then comes the nausea & tiredness, then the vomiting. If you're lucky you will be able to go 10 days without the vomiting starting. Tinidazole is more gentle(and more effective) so they say.
But here's a really good tip: get some metoclopramide(domperidone will do too) and take it along with it. It will *greatly* reduce the nausea and queasiness, making you feel pretty comfortable(but still tired). And it will prevent any vomiting.
It's a very harmless drug that is easy to come by. Ask your parasite..oops I mean doctor for a prescription if necessary. Good luck...- Re: It will get much worse in a few ... VespaChick

This is a reply to # 1,461,068Oh no! It will get worse? I've heard that since I am having a bad reaction it means it is likely working--at least!
Thanks for the tip on the anti-emetic. I will ask my ND to prescribe it along with an extra 5 days of Flagyl. I do not think that 5 days is enough, esp since I suspect I have blasto.
