You can bet that I came here due to more research on my well water which I have only lived here 8 months. I live somewhat near where you are moving to and I have a well that I just tested. I have a secretive neighbor who was friends with the privous owner and she let it slip that they all knew the water was contaminated on this property. Everyone has wells some use them and some do not. The neighbor has county water and we are both at the end of a cul-de-sac, her well is only 40 feet from my well. If my well was contaminated then hers would be also. Becuase my water is not hooked up to the county water, which would cause the water to loop around and flush the line she has mold in her water. Smells nasty. She now has gone against city codes and secretly hooked her well back up. Because she has harrassed me and is a lunatic I have mentioned it to inspectors and Sheriffs office. I think her water has driving her insane all these years. Those of us with wells realize that the ones on city water seem to have mental issues and have a lot of anger issues. My guess is that the well water was not as bad as the county water afterall.
We used a water test kit by Silver Lake Research, which we picked up at a local health food chain. Everything tested fine other then for heavy metals. Expect this when testing wells. My guess is that some of the neighbors are not well educated so they freaked out to soon and hooked to the city's water. Now we are sending the water into a testing lab to have more specific heavy metal test run. We have always used a Pur filter, even when living abroad and it helps with taste. We now have a whole house water filter for sediment from the well and an WATTS R.O. system under our sink. Samsclub just put these on clearance and they have the filter super cheap so we bought enough for 5 years at 1/3 the price. They can be purchased online until they run out. Just so you know that even if you do not have chlorine, you still need the chlorine filter with the R.O. system becuase it prevents back flushing of the lead/bacteria that it is trying to filter out. A whole house sediment filter is a good idea because it prevents your sink, and tub faucets, and refrigerator filters from breaking down due to sediment from a well.
We also have a $2100.00 refrigerator with filtration system on it. If we set a glass of that water on the nightstand, come morning it has an aftertaste where the R.O. system does not have an aftertaste.
I also have an $80 water distiller that I use the water for growing fish, drinking, ironing. My husband needed sterilized water for a tablesaw accident and soaking off bandages. We used this water mixed with
Iodine soak (benadine-surgeons recom.) for that purpose also. We use it for any body cleanses we do and we drink it and cook with it. We take it camping with us and on road trips.
A cheap way to get a water test done just for general purposes is to take it into a pool/spa chemical store. Research the wells in the area. There is a website online becuase I used it once. Missouri actually has some of the best wells left. Paris, France is situated on an artesian well. Major cities developed due to artisian wells or becuase they had nearby screams or rivers. Keep that in mind when looking at a particular area. Look at watershed information for your area also and all industry even those that are 100 miles away, due to wind, can have an effect on your well water.
I recently read about a new water system from Japan that sounds remarkable. It changes the water so that it heals the body. I saved the page and read about it here on curezone. If I remember I will post it for you. It's about $500 for the cheaper version. Hope this helps some. HH
