Using your template I am providing a review:
1. NAME of DOCTOR - Dr. Luke Fortney, UW-Health Integrative Medicine, Madison, WI
2. Condition treated - Severe hypermobility (a.k.a., loose joints) which led to chronic subluxation of the spine, dislocations of ribs and other joints, and just general joints moving "out of place". The condition also indirectly caused ankle sprains, a severe spiral fracture of the right ankle, severe ankle arthritis. All of the aforementioned joint problems caused my muscles to lock up around the joints as well as other soft tissue problems, and eventually led to so much pain that I began vomiting every day from the pain, even on hydrocodone and oxycontin.
3 Number of treatments -
I have completed 4 series of injections, but each one involved the treatment of a different number of joints. The total injections, so are not exact, but are probably good guesses.
1) One rib treated in my chest (~10 injections)
2) Multiple ribs treated on both sides of my chest and multiple vertebrae (6) treated on the left side of my mid-spine (~70 injections).
3) Multiple vertebrae (6) treated on the right side of my mid-spine (~40 injections)
4) Upper back, traps, shoulder blades, neck and base of skull treated (~80 injections)
4. RESULT: Better / Same / Worse
BETTER! by far.
After 1) my rib never popped out of place again
After 2) & 3) my mid-spine had a ~95% reduction in pain and became the most stable part of my back
After 4) Significantly reduced pain and muscle tension all over upper back
I am not vomiting anymore from pain. I can carry groceries again... I could not do this for 2 years previously. I can exercise again. I went from almost dying ~ 1 year ago from severe dehydration and collapsing from vomiting (and not caring if I did); from working on applications for permanent disability because I was bedridden 95% of the time; from having to miss doctor's appointments because I was too messed up to drive to them; and from having certainty that I was going to die before I turned 33, or at best would live out my life severely disabled and in pain, probably in assisted care... to... re-joining and working on my Ph.D. again (I just defended my prelim proposal in December); re-joining the community again (I have so many wonderful friends and I see them at the very least on the weekends); driving independently to Austin, TX from Madison, WI and back; getting my life back, getting my dreams back, and loving my life.
Clearly this is not ALL due to prolotherapy -- I have great doctors and friends and supports to thank as well, but prolotherapy has changed my life. However, I think it is mostly the condition I have -- loose joints. My doctor explained that it works best for them and explained why, and it makes perfect sense: during the healing reaction, the ligaments tighten around the loose joint and stabilize it. Joints that pop out of place are painful. When they are everywhere it is excruciating. Now they aren't everywhere. If your pain is different prolotherapy may not be the right solution. I cannot say for sure that it would not work for other types of pain, just not for sure or maybe not as well. Something to consider.
I hope this review is helpful. I have some more details about my history and situation in a response to another post above. Feel free to see that or contact me if you have further questions. Best of luck, I hope you all feel better!
