I'm drinking some right now....
I always start with the peels from 5
pounds of potatoes, and make something in the crockpot with the potatoes for the kids
The peels from 5
pounds carrots, and then I juice the carrots
About 3 bunches of beets- I cut up all of the tops and throw them in the pot, juice half the beets, and cut up the other half and throw them in the pot
3-5 large Texas 1015 onions, depending on my mood and how long I can stand the onion fumes, peeled and roughly quartered
A layer of garlic cloves- this usually ends up being around five good sized heads. I get the paper off, separate the cloves, and throw them in there
A whole bunch of celery, basically cut into sixths, including the heart (yum... I might eat this) and the leaves
Whatever greens I have in the refrigerator that are going past their peak
I top all this off with the fun part- a whole layer of peppers!
I've been using green jalepenos, but the habaneros are in now (at $6 a pound!!! I swear I'm going to start a little pepper farm so y'all can have some organic habbies) so I made my broth last night using these. I put a whole layer of habanero peppers on the top of my vegetables. :-)
Oh, man!!!!! This stuff is AMAZING! I wish I could share it with you! I have a jar of red grape juice with me, too, so I can put out the fire in my mouth!
This beats potassium supplements and bananas hands down. Y'all need to add this to your "lifestyle" if you're not doing it yet. I make some every other night, and let it simmer on medium low the whole time. When I'm ready to make a new batch, I have an Oompa Loompa take the old veggies out to the compost pile to give Mother Earth a hug for all her love to me. :-)
So yeah, all of us can do this. Guys, it's so easy. There's no real recipe. You just throw stuff in the pot, fill the pot with enough distilled/RO water to cover the veggies, bring the water to a rolling boil and the turn the fire down to a low simmer. You can cover it with a lid if you want.
You men can do this. You can make broths and teas and juices and amazing raw recipes. Ladies dig guys who can cook!
OK, I'm off to get a second cup of this stuff!
Hugs,
Wings
