My dog's ear is very raw. I noticed it was very red but wasn't sure why.
I haven't taken her to the vet yet.
Today I came home and she had been rubbing the side of her head (ear) on the carpet. I guess it was itchy. So it was very raw and had a lot of dark build up from where moisture had dried up and parts were wet. It wasn't puss but you know how when skin gets raw, it's wet...
I cleaned it with Colloidal Silver and rubbed peroxide and oil of oregano on it. It looks better than it did when I came home 5 hours ago, but still red and raw looking and a little wet again.
Any thoughts? Her ear also smells bad and I think this may be why she has lately been digressing and pulling things off of the kitchen counter and chewing up or eating things she shouldn't be. Dogs do that when they're experiencing discomfort, right?

This is a reply to # 1,323,102if you have a good coconut oil it couldn't hurt to try slathering a bit on the red and raw parts, and seeing as it's for the ear you don't have to worry about the dog always licking it away
and yeah I'd say the whole being restless and chewing things up could be related to this, like as if the pain is driving her nuts and she's blowing off some steam, assuming it's not a boredom/ lack of exercise thing
as for the actual cause, many factors could play a part so who knows... are you feeding a decent kibble? could be an allergy thing

This is a reply to # 1,323,102You didn't say if it was on the inside or outside of the ear. I am assuming it is on the inside. I am a holistic dog breeder and have experienced this before. I think it is probably yeast. When I had this with a puppy, it was the same symptoms but I did not get a diagnosis from a vet. I took Colloidal Silver and apple cider vinegar, mixed them together, it doesn't take much. I gently wiped the ears with this with a cotton ball and then squeezed a little into the ear. We did this 2-3 times a day and within a couple days it was gone! I was amazed! Make sure you use the vinegar with the mother in it. Good luck!

This is a reply to # 1,323,102I think you've received some excellent advice. If it's an ear infection on the inside then definitely try the ACV/ Colloidal Silver mixture. Where the area is raw I would use coconut oil and a drop or two of oil of oregano. Both oils are very healing (antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antiparasitic)...plus the oil of oregano will take away the pain and itchiness pretty quickly.

This is a reply to # 1,323,102Pets often will 'act out' to tell us they are having health problems.
Keep her ear clean by gently wiping her ear with a water-dampened washcloth - do not dribble anything in into the ear canal. Never use a Q-Tips, but use cotton balls to wipe out the inside the ear.
If she has long fur, it should be trimmed away from the raw areas to prevent it from matting into the wound. Using topical oils should be avoided, this can further irritate the skin and contribute to fur matting.
If she is shaking her head, watch for any swelling of the ear flap - this could be a sign a hematoma is forming. This is is a blood blister forming between layers of the ear tissue and needs to be treated by a vet to decompress it and prevent deformation of the ear.

This is a reply to # 1,323,102I have been cleaning it with Colloidal Silver .
I only used peroxide the first time. After that I used coconut oil w/ oil of oregano.
Only problem with that is she will scratch wither her back leg when she thinks I'm not looking and then start licking the coconut from her paw :) Silly dog.
I'll continue to do that, and pick up some ACV on my way home from work...wouldn't hurt to have that around again.- Re: thank you all #84437

This is a reply to # 1,323,416They do love that coconut oil don't they...lol. The ACV is a great thing to have around. I personally know two people who used ACV to clear up an inner ear infection in their dogs within 24 hours.

Continue putting the colloidal silver on her ear. Besides this, put colloidal silver in her waterbowl to prevent further infection.
