Hi Paul,
From what I know about fasting in general and specifically about juice fasting, It appears that your choice of food items for your
juicing is O.K, although I would add grapefruit juice, as the first juice of the day.
If I may, I would offer you some suggestions based on personal experience.
1. The coated tongue, exhaustion, foul odour etc all appear to me to be signs of detox. You see, the more toxins your body had in it, the stronger it will detox during a fast. It is important that you try and clean your tongu by scraping it. There are even special devices sold in certain health food stores specifically designed for that.
Symptoms such as you have experienced could be quite alarming if you do not have fasting experience or don't know what to expect during a fast. On the other hand they are good signs because they tell you that your body is doing well what it is supposed to do, namely getting rid of toxins that for years have accumulated in it.
2. Generally, to reap the full benefits of any fast one should break the fast at the point of true hunger.
this is when your tongu gets pink again (like a baby's tongu), your breath is no longer foul and you feel a true hunger sensation, mainly in the throat.
However, in certain instances, in the case of extremely havy detox, it is wise to break the fast erlier or alternatively gradually add a few additonal food items, such as a vegetable broth and then soup, or even some grated fresh vegetables. You must make sure that you chew these very well and eat them slowly.
It is also very important that while fasting you sip your juices slowly, after all they are food in the full sense of the word.
3. You mention that the reason for your juice fast is: "My goal in fasting has been to completely clean and detox my digestive system and every cell in my body, so that I would be finally able to fully digest and absorb the raw vegetable foods that I put in my body."
This suggest, and please correct me if I am wrong, that you suffer from IBD, or is it some other medical condition?
It would help to know what your state of health is to be able to offer you any advice that would be more specific.
No case is like any other one, not even when it comes to fasting. As a whole thugh, I would say that for a relatively healthy individual, a 52 days juice fast, should not involve such heavy level of detox such as you had described.
4. Since you are detoxing relativley heavily, and considering your fast is not supervised by a professional, I think it would be prudent for you to slowly and carefuly break the fast, even if you had not yet reached the point of true hunger, or of reaping the full benefits from this particular fast. Believe me, you will be able to conduct some additional fasts in the future.
5. As far as breaking the fast, you could start by eating vegetables that you would cook in their own juices, and if your digestive system is capable of tolerating some raw vegetables or fruits such as carrot, cucumber, pears, apples, you can add these during the first few days of breaking your fast. The main point is to eat them slowly and chew well.
There is usually a tendency and an urge to overeat after breaking a fast, try to control this urge.
After 3-4 days, when you add other food items, make sure to eat well combined meals.
6. For your next juice fast I would recommend taking some vitamin supplements, at least such vitamines as A+D.
I would not of course, recommend taking vitamins during a water fast, but on a juice fast, certainly!
7. I would also recommend taking a warm
water enema more often than once a week, perhaps even every day, except for those days that you feel very tired and enervated.
8. often in relatively later stage of a long juice fast, because of not chewing for a long time, people experience some pain in their jaws. It is then O.K to munch on a fresh carrot a few times during the fast, providing one chews very well.
9. Once you reach a point of good health and follow a
healthy Diet and lifestyle, it is advisable to do some short (5-7 days) juice or
Water Fasts 3-4 times a year. These are like regular scheduled maintenance. Heck, you do these for your car, you don't think your body is at least as important.
Hope I was of any help. Best of health to you and keep us informed,
Gubi
