Good luck, but I wouldn't count on anything getting any better with time. I've always been an active person and eat sensibly, but two months after the iud I started putting on weight and thinking it was holiday food related, watched more carefully and stepped up my workouts, the weight just kept creeping up. After I got it out, I stopped gaining and lost 2
pounds right away (probably water weight) and have worked like a dog for the last few months to lose another 6 or so. I don't do crash diets, 'cause I know the weight will just come right back on if I eat normal, so I've been working out more (an hour to an hour and a half most days) and it's been slow going.
The paragaurd is the copper iud, and might be the way to go for you, it doesn't have any hormones, which don't seem to agree with you. Please, get it out. If money is a concern, contact Bayer, maybe you can get a partial refund on your expenses.
I feel like this thing destroyed my physical and emotional well being, and it's worth the cost to get that back. The thing that ticks me off the most about having this thing is the months of my life lost being miserable. Don't lose any more precious time!
