MoreI am going to be graduating from college and transform from ' a student' into someone 'unemployed.' Its so painful- I regret not being more social and making more friends while in school. I am just too shy. I feel so withdrawn and alone all the time. I don't want to feel this way- and I know now that I want to have more than just a handful of friends. I doubt anyone is up now but I just thought it would be cathartic to get that out there.- Re: So alone MissCast

I teach college and have a lot of students who are on the brink of this scary transition, too. It's hard to be alone especially when you are facing an uncertain future. But if I can give any advice, I would say to use this alone time to think about what you want to do with your life, if not forever, at least for now.
You were shy in college, but now you are starting a new life with new people you will meet when you enter the working world. Think of it as a "do-over", you can work on your shyness and be anyone you want to be!
Hang in there! The best is yet to come.

This is a reply to # 1,156,708It's one thing to be popular and outgoing, but not its all its cracked up to be. Having a few good friends is better than a room full of shallow aquaintances. Don't know what your field of study is but an ambitious person is never unemployed for long. I have a degree in Chemistry and have worked 2 summer internships + two weeks in the real world lab in the 30+ yr since getting my degree. So there's hope you'll find a job or a position and make a few long lasting friendships.
