I had a referral from my chiro colleague to work with a lady who has back, neck and shoulder pain. He had worked on her for 3 sessions and although relief was experienced after each session, by the next day, the conditions returned.
This is a summary of a 1.5 hour phone counselling session I had with her (relayed with permission)
Me: I understand you have some physical conditions that are not responding to chiropractic. My experience tells me that specific beliefs cause specific physical symptoms. I will use my knowledge of metaphysics and the mind-body connection to help you clear up some thought patterns that may be causing your resistance to healing. Give me details of the specific symptoms you’re experiencing and when it all started.
Client: Upper back pain, stiff neck on right side and a deep knot in right shoulder. It all started around 3 weeks ago for no apparent reason. I didn’t have any type of accident.
Me: Is there a significant male in your life that you are having issues with?
Client: Yes – my husband. He’s been unwell and I’ve been looking after him. He is ungrateful for all I do for him and it’s really upset me.
Me: And you feel you are not being emotionally supported by others?
Client: Yes, Exactly! No one cares about how I feel; they care more about him than me.
Me: And you feel an enormous burden and sense of responsibility for his happiness and well-being?
Client: Yes!
Me: Let’s take a look at what you were thinking about before the pain began:
1. “My husband should be grateful”
2. “No one cares about me”
3. “I am responsible for others happiness”
Does that sound about right?
Client: Yes.
Me: Are you willing to change? Are you open to letting go of those beliefs and finding more supportive ones?
Client: Will it heal my shoulder, back and neck?
Me: I don’t know for sure, but you will experience emotional relief and that leaves the body free to heal itself. We could try and see.
Client: OK, I’m willing to try anything right now.
Note: This is where I run “The Work” of Byron Katie on these beliefs:
1. “My husband should be grateful”
2. “No one cares about me”
3. “I am responsible for others happiness”
For those doing the work of Byron Katie, you can imagine the turnarounds were profound.
We also tap several rounds of the “No one cares about me” statement using EFT
“Even though no one cares about me, I am willing to forgive them”
“Even though no one cares about me, I am willing to care for myself”
“Even though no one cares about me, I am open to others caring about me”
“Even though no one cares about me, I am deserving of others love and attention”
“Even though no one cares about me, I am open receiving the love that is my birth right”
“Even though no one cares about me, I deeply and completely love and accept myself”
… Which also opened up to some other beliefs that we tapped on using EFT:
Such as “I am all alone in the world” “I don’t deserve to be acknowledged” “I am less important than others” “I am unworthy of love” “People are uncaring”
I heard from the client 1 week later (today). All the pain went within 1 hour of our session and never returned, she felt her relationship with her husband had significantly improved, and by luck (as she calls it) other members of her family have been volunteering to help her out (LOA folks will understand how this happened!)
A very simple healing I am happy to share with you.
Release the thought patterns that create stress in the body
Replace with some new thought patterns that support personal happiness
Your trillions of cells begin to relax. Your body knows how to heal itself.
Anyone willing to do the emotional/mental work of loving and accepting themselves, and making their personal happiness top priority can heal any condition.
Love
