I have learned a thing or two about the citric acid and it's association with IC and candida. I thought it was just a tasty innocuous food additive. It is not.
I am doing Miracle-Mineral-Supplement slowly with citric acid . I just got interstitial cystitis symptoms yesterday which are like UTI symptoms. I figured I might have to do a higher dose of Miracle-Mineral-Supplement . I wondered if it WAS a real UTI or just IC or even why I was getting it at all. I usually don;'t have too many problems anymore. Upon researching UTI I came across the Nancy Ang post as follows:

She discusses the erosion from citric acid in the bladder at most and the irritation of the bladder at the least. Also she mentions candida associated with the IC frequency.

I was astonished. Citric acid is made from mold namely ASPERGILLUS. I am allergic to mold. I was horrified.
If I am allergic to mold and it is used to make citric acid... no wonder I am, by the way, getting more candida with this Miracle-Mineral-Supplement and getting IC.
Good grief.. I am thankful to Nancy for posting that or I would eventually be dropping this altogether from frustration and NO success.
BEWARE. People plagued by candida WITH THE MMS might try dropping the citric acid. IT"S mold derived.
I will see if I have further problems with ACV or lemon juice. I read Braggs ACV is not a problem with candida. But I do not remember where.
Furthermore my natural doctor always said my IC was from allergies... and so he is right. Probably citric acid. Altho maybe something else too.
You can get discouraged with all the issues..But we ARE all different.

MoreThis is a reply to # 1,078,025I am now wondering if the citric acid is at the bottom of my terrible outbreak of rash around my legs and not detox at all. I am going to return to the lemon/lime activator and see if that makes a difference.
The citric acid is more convenient, but I cannot tolerate the rash as the itching is a big problem. I can hardly stand to have anything against my ankles because it starts the itching.
Mold and fungus have been a big problem to me and when I saw "aspergillis origin" my eyes bugged out. Ewwww!!! Talk about eating poison.

This is a reply to # 1,078,252I'm surprised that you have IC and this is the first time you've run into citric acid as a bladder irritant. For me, it's the most major thing that just sets it off, and every diet for IC says to avoid citrus fruits and citric acid . I can't even have it as the last thing in a list of ingredients. I can't do lemon or lime juice, even.
I'm using the Braggs and I think it's great. I still can't drink a lot of it without it irritating my bladder, but I can drink whatever I'm using as an activator without issues. And I actually use the Bragg's "energy drink" to mix with the Miracle-Mineral-Supplement (two teaspoons in a cup of water with some stevia). I only mix a couple of tablespoons of the energy drink with the Miracle-Mineral-Supplement /activator and drink that, followed by a glass of water. So, maybe I'm drinking a teaspoon of ACV every time I take the Miracle-Mineral-Supplement .
Well, I suppose that in the back of my mind I hope that the MMS helps my bladder, but I'm not counting on it. Personally, I think my problem is congenital and is a response to a to acidic system. After many years of dealing with it, and searching for a resolutions, I've found that if I keep my urinary pH above 6.5 and don't eat foods that trigger a flare, my bladder is nice and healthy.

This is a reply to # 1,078,401I do not have a regular IC. I do not have an eroded bladder and when I had it checked there was nothing conclusive. Things just got better over time and so I did not concentrate much on it. I do think mine was mold related since I had mold in my house.- Re: I will let you all know if thing... NancyAng

I understand. And who is to say what is IC and what isn't? Clearly Dr's don't even know. But as you've seen, your bladder tends to be sensitive, and citric acid is definitely a bladder irritant, even for people who don't have true IC.
When I first met my doctor (may he rest in peace) he handed me a piece of paper with a list of foods to avoid if you had bladder problems. At the top of the list were Citrus Fruits (and citric acid ) followed by coffee, cola, artificial sweeteners and alcohol. He handed this list to all of his patients, no matter what type of bladder problem they had. He found that eliminating these foods tended to help all of his patients.
He was way ahead of his time. I miss him. Too bad he died at the hands of the medical establishment he worked within. He was diabetic and took a new drug for diabetes and it made his kidneys fail. How ironic that a urologist die of kidney failure. This is one of the reasons I hang out on CureZone instead of leaving my life in the hands of people who think they know everything.- Yes I understand that one. hkp

That the citric acid used as a preservative in most foods (and the kind you find sold in powdered form) was mostly made as a byproduct of the production of corn syrup. I read that a long time ago. That's the reason it's so prevalently used as a preservative, because it's just laying around after the making of corn syrup and is available very cheap. Kinda like the reason they use cotton seed oil in the making of junk food, because it's available very cheap after cotton has been cleaned (and cotton seeds are not really a food).
I'm not sure if aspergillis is part of the production of citric acid or not when it's the by-product of corn syrup. But I do know that's why it's in so many foods as a preservative, as opposed to something else. It's cheap.Advertisement

Even bottled lemon juice... how do you make sodium benzoate. A preservative.
Upon looking that up you get the usual...."found to be safe" for consumption.
And I would guess we can believe that as well as the fact that agent orange was not a contributing factor in lung disease for Viet Vets.
Because we know we are often lied to... trust is gone.
Guess we choose natural... as much as possible.

This is a reply to # 1,078,025Hi everyone, i had to write because i cant believe what i'm reading... i use mms for IC.... i use lemons with the mms.... you will NEVER get better if you stop treatment EVERTIME you have a PAIN... pain and discomfort are a part of healing... you have to work through the pain... most of the anti candida foods you eat turn acidic in the body... lemons are the least of your problems... meat and chicken are acidic and so are eggs... plus, quinoua, spelt, rice cakes, and rice milk, soy milk, almond milk... and, so many other things you ingest are acidic... look it up... the little bit of lemon juice you mix with water will not stop you from getting better... alot of fruits are acidic in the body... but, lemons is not one of them... you will never get better if you dont give the mms a chance.... your body is cleansing and it can be painful... especially in the beginning.... its just stuff being purged out.... if you want my doctors name and number you can email me... hes excellent and is a nutritionist and scientist... hes been one for over 40 years... hes brilliant... everyone i know goes to him... he will explain this better than i have.... good luck and god bless...

This is a reply to # 1,406,247my doctors name is Dr. Fred Bisci his number is (718) 979- 7950... hes excellent.... and more importantly very honest... hes in his 70's and not in this for your money... everyone in new york goes to him.... even celebrities and alot of athletes... you would love him... he put me on the Miracle-Mineral-Supplement ... there two other supplements you have to take while on mms... there crucial in getting better... thanks for clearing up the lemon juice situation for me...

The article states that in 2007, 3.4 BILLION pounds of citric acid was made, half of which was put into food. Apparently, most citric acid comes from corn these days.
I use Hydrocortizone cream whenever I have an outbreak on my skin. It helps, but it's not a cure, nor does it help with my blurred vision and intestinal cramps (kind of a horrible twitching).
