Hi Janey,
Are you taking any adrenal, thyroid or liver support? If not, you really need to BEFORE you start chelating with anything. These will help you feel you can cope MUCH better generally.
Take coconut oil for thyroid....3 X tbspns a day. Start on one tbspn and build up.
Glandulars for adrenals. Nutricology are good.
I take Armour for thyroid. Its dried pig thyroid gland.
Ashwagandha is a great herb for the adrenals, will make you feel less anxious. Try 2 X 500mg a day. Sea/himalayan salt will help too.
You also need milk thistle for your liver.
Vit E (at least 400iu a day)
Good quality fish oil eg Nordic Naturals.
To lower copper you need to take zinc (try 50mg a day) and molybdenum. Check if your multi contains copper. You might need to take your minerals individually and stop the multi if it contains copper.
Re how will you feel on ALA, well it really depends on the dose, how toxic you are and if you're taking other supplements to support yourself. You can have a real boost in mood and energy from it or you could feel like you're losing it even more. I've had both experiences but I'm quite sensitive. If/when you do start on ALA stay on the safe side and take a VERY low dose eg 5mg and see how you go. If you can't tolerate it you might need to consider taking DMSA or DMPS first, without ALA.
But forget about ALA for now and concentrate on the other things first.
