This is just my personal opinion, but it comes from my experience, so just consider it my two cents.
If you are having gas, you are not digesting your food; therefore acid/alkaline imbalance may be a side effect, not a cause. You need to take steps to correct your food being digested, and multi enzymes with added Betaine are very good for that. Take them just before you eat and adjust the dose as necessary.
Oily skin/hair is probably also a side effect of your food not being metabolized properly plus a lack of B vitamins (often from the same reason). Along with enzymes, add a good B-50 or B-100 supplement. Google riboflavin (B-2) and oily skin, and if you want to take a little extra of that, fine, but not separately, as too much of any one b vitamin can cause a deficiency in the others.
The candida diet needs to be supported by good probiotics, at the appropriate dosage. I use acidophilus from Walmart - it is not expensive and works great. You can also ask your health food store for recommendations.I know you have tried some things, but if you still have gas and bloating you need them. Due to a family history of diabetes, and a childhood of bad eating, I tend to candida, and have to use 6-7 of the capsules 4-5 times a week. The key to my dosage is the odor of my stool. Healthy stool should have no foul odor. Candida can cause gas, poor digestion, and stools with a foul odor. I take enough acidophilus to keep the odor fro my stool, so I know I have the right amount of good bacteria growing. All else is secondary when your food does not digest and you have the resulting gas and bloating. If on the other hand, your stool has no odor at all, you may need only the digestive enzymes.
When I was a young girl, I would get so much gas and could not release it. My other would tell me to do the hula and take some sal-hepatica or bromo seltzer. The hula was a good idea; the other was not. Trapped gas is very dangerous and one should never deliberately hold in gas.
Google the connection between candida and mercury or heavy metals - it is thought that candida comes to protect the body by enveloping the mercury, and candida that is difficult to get rid of can sometimes be attributed to mercury in the body. You would suspect this if you have any silver dental fillings, ever broke a thermometer, or grew up with any heavy metal exposure. Search the
Iodine and dental forums for more on this.
When one tries to alkalize the body with fruits and vegetables, the fruits sometimes feed the candida due to the amount of sugar. While a cancer patient might benefit fro a vegetarian, highly alkaline diet, IMO a candida patient needs to rely on high protein, high (and good) fat, low carb until there is no longer evidence of candida.
All bodies are not the same, and so much depends on where you are in your journey for good health. So before you jump on the alkaline bandwagon, research it well. The need for alkalization is good when you have eaten a highly
Sugar laden processed food acidic diet - you have not had that diet recently. Stick to your candida diet, which does not include fresh fruits and fruit juices, but can include fresh vegetables and vegetable juices, which are alkalizing to the body.
If you are considering an alkalizing drink as promoted by one of our forums, please research the ingredients in that drink, particularly kelp and calcium hydroxide. There are pros and cons on those ingredients on Curezone and you can google Curezone to get the various opinions. Get all the information before proceeding.
Consider that it may be the coconut oil did not "stop working." It may be that it still works, but because it has reached an obstacle, or something it needs to work on, it may not have the instant results that it seemed to have for you originally. That does not mean it is not working. If it helped you before, there is no reason to believe that it is not still helping you. Liken it to someone on a diet reaching a plateau - it does not mean the diet is not working and one needs to look for another diet.
I cannot advise you on underweight as i have NEVER had that problem. I can tell you the body always tries to find homeostasis (balance) and possibly, in its wisdom, cannot use the small amount of energy it is able to metabolize from your food to put on weight when it needs it for life. I would say that when you begin to give your body a good environment to digest your food (good bacteria, enzymes, and lack of congestion) you may then begin to put on some weight. Speaking of abdominal congestion, massage is excellent for that - a couple of minutes twice a day, drinking hot liquids rather than cold ones, and pulling the energy away from that area by keeping your feet and hands warm (think of a baby with colic who needs booties).
I would advise you to have three bowel movements per day to help detox the candida. The acidophilus will help you on this, as will increased magnesium. For good info on detox, read the FAQs on the
Iodine VWT forum.
So, if I were you, I would not try to alkalize or acidify my body. Your body will do that for you, and if you provide the right environment for your food to digest and your body to detox what it is holding onto, it will find the right PH for each of the varying levels, urine, blood, saliva. Overdoing the efforts to go in one direction or the other can cause problems. You have already proved to yourself that you have done some things that worked, and that the extra alkalizing and acidifying did not help or harm. So continue on things that work, and tweak it a little as necessary. The protein is acid and the vegetables are alkaline and that allows your body to maintain its PH. Now you just have to get those things to digest well.
