You would think that one day people might begin to get smart and vote for candidates that best represent the people. Instead, they always vote for the two most popular in the media, with generally the biggest bank accounts. Of course, we do have to be careful, because we were nearly duped by Ross Perot a few years ago. Ross is Big Business and not for the little guy. But he came along and preached some middle class ideals. He made the mistake of saying he was going to run the Government "like a business". That didn't set well with middle America. He was thought of by many as the male equivalent of Leona Helmsley. People didn't want big money in the White House blatantly thrown at them. At least when when we are duped by the top two candidates time and time again, their Corporate agenda is well hidden from us, so we don't feel so bad.
Americans do not want wealthy Ivy League Presidents who cater to the interests of Big Business. But, every four years, the Democratic and Republican ticket is just that. And, I will lay you odds, save some big public screw up on the part of the candidates, that come election time, you will will be staring at your ballot with big letters saying, either O'Bama or Clinton and whatever wealthy candidate comes from the Repulican side. Now, there's nothing wrong with them if you like rich people or if you own a Corporation.
One thing I want to make to make clear..rich people, and that includes most of your candidates, do not sit around and think how can I screw over people today..how can I get more rich, etc.... As my College Sociology Professor pointed out to us years ago, the wealthy live in a totally different world than the rest of us do. They are simply unable to relate in any other way. They grew up without having to worry about living paycheck to paycheck, or whether they could afford health insurance, or how they were going to finance a home or their children's education..all the things the less privileged have to concern themselves with day in and day out. They are taught wealthy ideals such as the "American Dream" really does exist.
Well, in reality, that dream exists only for a few. It entails acquiring an upper middle-class position and living comfortably without worry of having enough finances. The truth of that is, that only so many of those positions exist. Capitalism is the foundation of the dream, and it requires exploitation of labor, which results in profit. Exploitation in this context is not used pejoratively, but as a description of the theory of labor as stated by Marx years ago. Profit is what the Capitalist system depends on in order to sustain. The labor creates what we call value. The workers must do more labor than what it takes to simply pay them. That produces profit. A minority, the Capitalists, control (monopolize) the means of production, i.e., machines, tools, plant and equipment, infrastructure, anything necessary to produce a product that profit can be made off of. Workers are totally dependent on Capitalists for survival. Our Government maintains and enforces this inequality of power. The workers are continuously driven to do the labor for the Capitalists because of an always present surplus of workers (the unemployed).
Many ponder the questions: Why don't people get smart?, Why don't people stand up for themselves?, Why don't people elect officials who represent them well and not elect the rich? Well, for one, it is no mistake that the candidates are wealthy. Corporate America depends on the Government to maintain their power through laws and enforcement, so they provide incentives, favors, campaign contributions, etc... in order to ensure their domination over the working class. For another, because workers are totally dependent on the property owners, they must expend a great deal of time and effort maintaining employment to fund their lives. That means they have less time to focus on the inequalities of society. What Capitalism has created is an "us" and "them" society, rendering the "them" financially powerless and creating an air of powerlessness in effecting change in the system to one of equality for all. As long as a minority owns the means of production, there is no way to not be an enslaved worker.
You say you want a Revolution, well.... Yes, that is the only way the worker could break the bonds of Corporate profit. But, we have Law Enforcement Agencies and the Military that will defend our system, so taking over our economy would be a difficult assignment and very hard to organize. It is virtually impossible. The Government is always aware of Revolution and has tactics in place should it come to light. We were actually approaching such a movement back in the day of FDR when we lacked social programs for the poor aged, unemployed, veterans, and disabled. But, he and his Brain Trust quickly went in to action to prevent it by developing and implementing the Social Security Act. Many new programs were the result of that and political unrest was stifled. This was done more to save the power structure than it was to help the people. That is clear, because they would have helped them prior had they really been that concerned with our welfare. Our forefathers documented that "the masses are not to be trusted". Some interpreted that to mean they thought the masses were stupid. Whatever was meant, it is obvious the Government has a vested interest in maintaining Capitalism via Corporate America.
We the workers are further manipulated by being taught that wealthy people have entitlement, that they are to be praised for "making it" in society, that they earned the right to reap their benefits. However, the truth is, most all the wealthy are born into it; There are very very few entrepreneurs. Even Donald Trump had money and real estate inherited from his father. So, really it's the luck of the draw at birth as to whether you will be a Corporate property owner or simply one of the massive workers.
As far as the Government being corrupt, yes, there are many documented cases. We hand over a good share of our wages to them for the privilege of working for "the man" and that is a great deal of money to entrust to anyone. Bureaucracy is an ingenious diversion to pass the buck and avoid accountability of any one person should your tax dollars become misappropriated; Rarely do we see prosecutions. And, they have ways of legally wasting our money or using it for purposes it wasn't intended for. In fact, the Lee Iacocca Chrysler solvency and the Savings and Loan bail out were both done with the "general fund", something it was never designed to do...but it was done, and all legally.
Are there big conspiracies running amuck? No. There have been some and there will be more just due to the fact that money and power corrupt in our society. But, it's pretty difficult to pull off huge conspiracies that people claim, such as our Government knowing about 9/11 or helping it to happen in some way, etc.... Yes our CIA has been involved in selling drugs and weapons to other countries. Those countries are not generally considered ones that are a threat to us. Our Government allows other countries to purchase parts that can be used to make illegal weapons and such, but the key phrase is "can be used". They are involved in some shady activities. And, they do many more misappropriations like funding vacations for their entire families at taxpayer expense, etc.... But, for the most part, their main focus is maintaining control over the workers so the Corporations can control the economy. Their second priority involves paving the way for Corporations to get a hold of any natural resources they can and as inexpensively as they can get it for. That is what fuels the Capitalist economy and provides money for the workers and ultimately the Government. The Government's third priority is securing natural resources so they can make money off them and use them for their own needs, as well. A good example is oil. They have owned oil in Saudi Arabia for many years. We used to own 60%, but Saudi didn't like it that way, so we now own 40%. We have a joint venture Corporation over there called Aramco. And, for many years, the U.S. has had it's eye on the oil in Mexico that Mexicans are not even using, and is strategizing how to get their hands on it. That is why you see things like the new laws allowing Mexican trucks on our highways where they were not allowed before. It is part of an even broader plan entitled the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPPA), which also involves Canada.
Ok, all that being said, what about the Presidential Election or any election for that matter? Well, as you can see, ultimately we are given a choice between two candidates who are wealthy, graduated from an Ivy League University, and are backed by Corporate America. A lot of money is spent to offer us those two choices and millions are spent to "weed out the grassroots candidates". The two are who we elect in the Primary, but it is also who we are conditioned to elect. To have any different choice would involve having a great number of us realize what is going on and voting in a different candidate. With the amount of brainwashing being done to convince us we want the wealthy candidates, I don't see that happening, at least not any time soon. But, let's say we were able to wake up the consciousness of America. We still have a little problem with electing a people's choice candidate. It has been said many times that the President is a puppet and basically does what the Congress allows him to do. So, if we were to elect a President who actually was for political reform and had the best interest of the people at heart, which I don't know how he/she could within the confines of a Capitalist system, they would be putting their lives on the line. Someone from Corporate America or from the Government could have them shot and killed. Many say JFK was too much for the people and that it got him assassinated.
So at least you know how the system works and why we seem to never elect a President who improves our little worker lives substantially. All I can say at this point is, um..happy voting?
