Day 8 of my juice fast
Journal of day 8 of my juice fast
Date: 7/25/2006 1:04:48 AM ( 18 y ) ... viewed 3771 times I was just searching the web on "day 8 - juice fast" to see if I could find some blogs of folks who have been where I am - and I found this site. I found the blog I read of another users' juice fast to be inspiring, so I thought I would start one of my own.
I am not severely overweight, but since turning 35 my metabolism has changed. I don't do anything more or less than before, and I don't eat anything more or less, but since turning 35 I keep battling the same 20 "extra" pounds and never seem to get them off. I hide it well - most people think I'm smaller than I am - because all my extra weight goes to one place - my belly. My arms and legs are not that big, but under that loose t-shirt I'm hiding those 20 pounds in a nice big spare tire - and I'm always aware it's there.
The juice fast started as an accident. I have known that I had to loose this 20 lbs for an event coming up that will be televised, and known that I would need to get started soon. Last Monday I just got really busy and kind of forgot to eat any solid food. (It was totally wierd - that never happens) Anyway, I figured since I'm already one day in, why not do a juice fast for a couple of days? I was thinking I would do it for maybe 3 days. Then I jumped on the web and started reading more, and started toying with the idea of a week or more ... the more I read about the benefits of juice fasting, the better it sounded, so I decided to go for a full 30-day juice fast to reap all the health benefits of a complete cleansing. At some point during or after the fast I want to get colon hydrotherapy done also.
I read that day 3 is the worst - you smell and crave *everything*, and that after that, hunger virtually dissapears. Maybe I was too prepared for day three, but I was fine. Day two was a real killer - I'm really surprised I didn't break down and cave that night - I just kept daydreaming about one food after another. But day three I was OK. I thought that I would be home free after that, sunce hunger is supposed to vanish then - for me that wasn't the case at all - the 4th day was one of my worst in terms of cravings. I think day 5 was when I settled down a bit.
One of the nice things is, after you have been on the juice fast for a bit, even if you have a momentary craving, you haven't had solid food in so long it would probably just make you sick anyways if you ate it right now. Another thing that steers me away from temptation is knowing that if I eat solid food, I'll just wake up my digetstive track and make me more hungry anyways... not to mention the fact that the whole point of the juice fast is to give the system a rest from the constant barrage of food so it can heal and cleanse the body.
So far the actual wight loss has been super slow - which is kind of suprising because I'm taking in a lot less calories than usual. I'm in it for the long haul, so I'm sure I'll see the changes I hope to see before it's over. First I lost one pound, then two pounds, then I was up a pound again and stayed there for a couple of days, and today i'm down a total of 4 pounds. Don't get me wrong, a half a pound a day is fantastic, but I have been reading about people losing like 3-4 pounds a day in the first days of a juice fast - and that certainly wasn't my experience. Movement on the scale has been minimal so far. One thing that has helped me stay focused is to read about juice fasting and all the great things people have to say about their experiences.
I've only told a couple of people what I'm doing and they seem to think I'm doing something really bizarre or dangerous (funny - no one worried when I stuffed my face with nasty fast food all the time - now THAT's bizarre and dangerous!) I wanted to tell some friends so they could give me a little encouragement for sticking with it, but it hasn't really worked out that way. They don't get it so I'll just tell 'em how great it was later after I'm done so I can sidestep the puzzled looks for now.
