Day Nineteen-A Long Day's Journey Into Walmart
Sometimes everyday events become blessings.

I was pretty much out of food, both for me and the puppies and it was time to get more. A few months ago, I would have simply put on some shoes, jumped in the car and taken care of things. Now, I had to first decide if I really, really wanted to eat. Then I had to find someone to help me reach and carry. After recruiting a neighbor, I drove to the nearest Walmart, a small town Division I store, a far cry from the Supercenters most people are used to. I had to park quite a distance from the store since handicapped parking is more for the first come-first served than for those who need help. I got out the walker and slowly made my way to the sole wheelchair in the store. The wheelchair was missing! I was in a near panic wondering whether to wait or go on to the city. Since I was exhausted just walking to the store I chose to sit down and wait for the chair to show up. Luckily my neighbor found plenty of old friends to visit. (The local joke is if you want to see your friends and neighbors-go to Walmart) When the chair failed to show, I got a cart and tried to walk holding on to it. I kept popping wheelies with the cart and was afraid I would pull it down on top of me. I went right to the pet section and had my friend put a 20 pound sack of dog food in the cart for balance. I got about half of what I needed and knew it was time to check out. I had already made a few rest stops including the comfortable chairs at the pharmacy, where I got to visit with an old friend too. With my neighbor's help, we got back to the car and got it loaded. We noticed smoke rolling into town making eyes burn and lowering visibility. Apparently there were some controlled burns being done in the National Forest in the next county. Since my neighbor has asthma, it was time to head for the hills.
After I got home and the pain from walking subsided I felt pretty good about my adventure. That was the longest I have been able to walk in almost a month. My walking still needs support and its not pretty to watch, but I was moving. Sometimes everyday events become blessings.
Pain!!!!!
Its now 8:30 and I am in serious pain. I was outside putting new chains on tie out stakes for the puppies when the UPS truck arrived. Jake was tied, but broke his collar trying to charge the UPS guy. He refused to come in the yard, so I tried to walk up the hill to the road. My back gave out and I could not move. All I could do was sit down where I was and asked the delivery man to place the package in the pick-up. I slowly managed to get up and hunched over almost bent in half, I hobbled back to the house. Now its watch and wait, do I have a new injury, or did I just overdo it today? I'm hurting so bad, I don't know right now. I would appreciate prayer and positive energy from all who read this tonight. Tomorrow I'm supposed to go to therapy at 10 a.m.
