March 19
while awaiting beginning of RawFest at co-op, why not take a little stroll?
Date: 3/19/2006 4:38:33 PM ( 18 y ) ... viewed 2365 times Well, I'm marching right on through March. Walking at least a half hour each day, sometimes more. The surgical procedure and recovery only slowed me down slightly.
Becoming ever so much more conscious of my eating choices, the environment within my home, and the other environments I spend time with was another gift of my recent "health emergency." I really think we can use these untoward events life sometimes throws at us to create ourselves into stronger more vibrant beings.
Today I wanted to go to our local food coop and check out their RawFest. Rather than link to a temporary news page of their site, I'm reprinting their schedule of events here:

RawFest - Sunday, March 19, 12:30 - 9:00 pm March 11, 2006
Why is the raw food diet becoming so popular lately? We’re inviting the Boulder Community to learn all about raw foods at the Boulder Co-op Market, 1904 Pearl St., on March 19, from 12:30 to 9:00 pm. Rawfest is open to everyone. It is not necessary to be a co-op member.
"We fully stocked our raw food section on Friday and it was almost totally sold out by Monday. The products are flying out of here.” stated Amy Wyatt, assistant manager of the Boulder Co-op Market.
“Most people have tried about every new diet there is so why not try the raw diet, where people are experiencing better all-around health and energy? The raw food diet saves time, money and the environment, although it’s important to learn the right way to go about it. One can take a class, read a book, and attend events like RawFest at the Co-op,” says Brigitte Mars, author of Rawsome, raw food educator and herbalist.
RawFest will be packed with raw food education, samples, specials and fun. All classes are free of charge.
Here is the schedule:
12:30 – 2:00 pm 10 Reasons to Go Raw by Brigitte Mars
3:00 – 4:00 pm Raw Italian Food by Ana Phillips (free samples)
4:00 – 5:00 pm Raw Desserts by Heather & Kristen of Eternal Harmony (free samples)
5:00 – 6:00 pm Raw Dessert Contest (prizes for winners)
6:30 – 8:00 pm Raw Potluck (bring a dish for 10 or more, list ingredients)
8:00 – 9:00 pm Juliano’s Raw, an educational and highly entertaining video ($5)
The Raw Dessert Contest is open to the community. Please bring 10 or more pieces for a panel of 10 judges, composed of five raw foodists and five non-raw foodists. Prizes will be awarded to five winners. Immediately following the contest is the Raw Food Potluck, where you’ll get a chance to taste many great dishes prepared by members of the raw food community.
Café Prasad, at the Boulder Co-op, will be serving many raw food dishes on March 19, and there will be many raw food products to sample in the store.

Well, I got there an hour before all the festivities were due to start, so I ate a healthy little breakfast in their Prasad Cafe, and then filled the between time with a nice walk through downtown.
Because the sky was greyish and a dire prediction for more than a foot of snow has been flashing across the TV news screen for a few days now, not many people were out walking. This was nice. I don't especially like crowds of tourists, which is what we often get on Sundays. As this town's become more and more moneyed, there has been a huge influx of these highbrow, self-righteous people, also. I don't want to be like them, I just want to avoid them.
Anyway, the streets were uncrowded so I had a nice walk. I could walk fast without any barriers other than a few stoplights.
I walked West for about 20 minutes, and then turned to walk East again. I stopped at a new coffee/tea shop that just opened last month. It was nice to see familiar faces and talk with people I remember from poetry readings, acoustic concerts, and 12 step meetings over the years. They had great vanilla rooibos (sp?) tea, too.
4 more blocks of walking and I was back at the co-op. The first talk was just about to begin: 10 reasons to eat raw foods. I'll write a bit more about that talk on my Vibrational Health Village blog later this afternoon.
It was a nice walk. I've noticed my walks are getting more pleasant and easier as I move closer to a raw foods diet. Not there yet, simply moving towards it.
Drinking more water has been most beneficial, too.
Hope you're all having an enjoyable Sunday.
