The Zen of having a Herpes Infection
Herpes has been a stern barometer for me. It reminds me when I am not eating properly or getting enough sleep. It warns me to chill out when I get too stressed out.

We are living in an interesting time on this planet. We have access to so much wisdom and knowledge from so many different sources, from so many different cultures. Some still vibrant, some long dead.
Eckankar taught me that the outside world is a reflection of one’s inside world. I learned that the more at peace I was with my own herpes the more positive the reactions were from others when disclosing my own herpes infection.
The Kybalion taught me about the law of polarity-that everything is balanced by it’s opposite. I learned that the only way to truly fight disease is by embracing ultimate health- so I got busy making my body, mind and heart way healthier than it was before herpes.
Observing nature taught me that disease affects all living things-plants and animals alike and that having a disease is in no way unnatural or a punishment or a disgrace. I changed my way of thinking about disease and freed myself from my own self-imposed leper colony.
The herpes virus has been a great teacher to me. I wrote in a previous article that having herpes taught me how to be humble for the first time in my life. Struggling with my own outbreaks during the early years of my infection taught me that I am not the dominant life-form on this planet, a simple virus- which is not even technically a living organism, can kick my ass any day of the week. Observing the growing anxiety over the H5 avian flu virus further reinforces for me the realization that microorganisms have always ruled this world and always will.
Herpes has been a stern barometer for me. It reminds me when I am not eating properly or getting enough sleep. It warns me to chill out when I get too stressed out. I never have to guess when I am out of balance with myself and the world around me- my friend herpes is always there to remind me.
Herpes has taught me to deeply appreciate my immune system- something I totally took for granted before having herpes. I now treat my immune system with the reverence it deserves.
I would love to hear your thoughts and read about your experiences with herpes. Please do write and let me know about what herpes has taught you.
Anthony Robbins taught me that what you focus on is what you get. Time we stopped focusing so much on the negative aspects of having herpes and focus more on the positive. Please do let me know about the positive things having a life-long herpes infection has done for you.
Let’s chant down Babylon together.
Let’s escape from the matrix.
