Prt. 7 "Son of" Truth of Self
Improved nourishment for elders can decrease the necessity for entrance into a nursing home.

It is now going on two months since the conclusion of that activity and that has made for a great year from September '05 to September '06! I have requested a written testimony from the former client who has agreed to provide that to me. I will include the testimony in a presentation I intend to make a t a local Elder Care Coalition along with other information I plan to bring. One item is that "A study has shown that elderly men and women who were deficient in vitamin D were more likely to be admitted to a nursing home than those with high levels." This came from the "American Journal of Clinical Nutrition September 2006; 84(3): 616-622 with comments by Dr. Mercola. If you haven't visited a nursing home then allow me to say (from my own personal work experience) it's not a place you'll want your elder loved ones to end up in. Not if you want the best nourishment for that loved one. And this is the message I want to convey to the coalition. Let's keep our elders at home by providing them with the best possible nourishment.
I had an opportunity several years ago to support a family in "rescuing" their mother/grandmother form a nursing home facility so she could spend the last days of her life in her own home where her family could see and be with her anytime everyday. I provided her with mostly a nourishing liquid diet that was easy for her to take and for her body to digest. I believe the simple diet allowed her an easier transition through the last days of her life in the body. I believe she made a very peaceful transition in the middle of the night with family at her bedside, into her final rest in peace.
I believe the elder nourishment support will come from the provider in many cases and that means supporting the one who is giving care to the elder. I will be inquiring at the coalition meeting (if not before) about classes for providers and then possibly teaching that. The main idea would be to encourage the inclusion of more real food and less processed "foods of convenience".
In the next couple years the "baby boomers" will begin retiring and the idea of improved nourishment may become more desired as these people enter the elder years of their lives. But anyone can benefit from improved nourishment and so please don't wait for a future necessity!
Be well my friends!
