Raw food beginner fighting Liver Disease
Fighting Liver Disease with Raw Diet
Date: 6/3/2005 11:40:46 PM ( 19 y ) ... viewed 4925 times I was diagnosed with liver disease back in March. I was down with the same symptoms seven years ago but was told it was lupus. But then I fell ill-really ill in March. It started with swollen glands, an incredibly infected throat and a bladder infection. Of course I ignored all the signs--our body does tell us things if we would actually LISTEN! I thought I was just sick--but then I couldn't stand up and I had incredible fevers, night sweats ect. Went to the emergency room and wound up in the hospital for a week and then bed rest and misery for the next four weeks. Not only did I have liver disease but I had a chronic case of mono on top of it. I had enough common sense and (no appetite) to reject the hospital food! I cannot believe the stuff they tried to feed me. It was your basic SAD (standard American diet) but worse. I had friends bring in fruit for me. Three dieticians came in and told me I needed to eat more. I told them that the salad was iceburg with ONE cherry tomato. How was I suppose to get better on that? She then asked me if I could eat jello. I looked at her incredulously and said, "Jello? That is all sugar and no nutrition!" I was sent home still very ill but my wonderful mother came and took care of me. She is a vegetarian and made fruit smoothies for me and high vegetable and low protein meals. I decided to eat no meat during my recovery to give my liver a break but I am seriously considering never going back to it. Honestly I don't miss it all that much. The absolutely amazing (and I mean amazing) is that I don't crave sugar like I use to. I firmly believe that if you can stay off of processed sugar for two weeks and supplement with raw honey (NOT Cooked as it destroys all the good stuff...check with your health food store) or real maple syrup and alot of sweet fruit that you won't look back either. Right now I feel so good that I am back to work part time. The last time I was sick seven years ago I did not leave my bed for four months and had to keep the room dark and quiet because of the headaches. I then made it to the couch and was unable to work for another 4 months. I am so excited about this new way of life and my ability to work again that I had to share it with you!
