So far, so good. I'm in the thick of PMS, when I usually have a 2-4 lb. weight gain, and the scale read 161.5, late in the afternoon, after having eaten breakfast and lunch (there wasn't a scale where I woke up this morning). I expect to be back to 158 this time next week.
I've noticed that, during the day I feel more clear-headed and energetic. I have been conscientous about maintaining my exercise plan.
I do 45 minutes of cardio 5 days each week, usually on something called an ArcTrainer, like an elliptical but much more fun. I also ride my bike to do all of my little errands close by, like going to the post office or picking up shampoo and nail polish from the drugstore.
I eat 1200 calories a day, for three days, and then on the fourth day I eat 1500-1700. I've been eating a lot of fresh greens and veggies, but Traditional Chinese medicine recommends eating lightly steamed veggies, more fruit, fish and less dairy and beef. I remember a time over a decade ago, when I saw a PETA-ish video and was so sick that I went veg for several months. A friend of mine in college taught me how to make stir-fried vegetables (I was from a small, redneck town and had never heard of such a thing) and I used to eat that almost every day...I lost a lot of weight and gained a lot of energy without even trying! Then I started partying and drinking alcohol all of the time, and my health went downhill while the scale went up.
I do get tired earlier...last night, after paying to see a great bluegrass show, I went to bed shortly after midnight and slept like a log. I get up MUCH earlier, though, without an alarm, and I feel very very good when I wake up. I just learned tonight that, while I feel like a party pooper old lady fuddy duddy, staying up after midnight drains Qi very quickly according to TCM...and while going to bed early and rising early, I have had a LOT more energy for my workouts and life in general.
Once Flo gets going I'll check back in and let you know how the weight maintenance is going. I'll be at the local burn next week, but when I get back, I plan to do another fast, this time incorporating Tai chi into my days, along with yoga and the treks to the gym. I'm an energy junkie, what can I say?
