A story of Memorial Day from 1920's...
Decoration Day as it was originally called by the Ladies of Dixie; and then the rest of the nation...

Memorial day was started by women in Dixie; in 1866 the Spring after the end of that great conflict... The original idea was to remember the fallen dead veterans, by going out and decorating the graves of these heros... Thus the name Decoration Day... Many families still go out and decorate and clean up the Graves of relatives and friends in the Southland today... It is not just limited to veterans...
But we should all learn the real meaning in the observance of Memorial Day... After Congress made memorial Day a National holiday, it requires the President to set aside a period of time on that day for Prayer, and remembrance of fallen veterans...
The official time in 2006 was 11:00... This is just so you know that there is more of a reason than just to go out on a picnic in the park... Nothing against such actives but we do need to remember the whole reason for Memorial day...
See Ya.. Kermit
