While the causes of dandruff are various, it can certainly be transferred genetically and can get aggravated with emotional and physical stress and with climatic change, becoming worse in winter. Dandruff can either be greasy or dry. The manufacturers of dandruff shampoos, unfortunately, are not in the business of treating dandruff permanently, otherwise who would buy their products. If you have resolved to solve this problem from the root, you must first begin with dietary changes avoiding fried foods, white sugar and dairy products. Eat more of green, leafy vegetables and raw organic foods. Additional nutritional help should be taken in the form of Vitamins B, A, zinc and omega fatty acids (please consult a physician before taking these supplements). Next, there should be minimal stress in life, lots of fresh air (the hair needs to breathe fresh air as well) followed by a little bit of exercise and lots of water intake. Now you are ready to gain maximum benefits from Aromatherapy. The essential oils that help uproot dandruff are: Cedarwood, Tea tree, Cypress, Lavender, Lemon, Rosemary, Thyme, Sage, Carrot seed, Juniper berry, Geranium and Sandalwood among others. You may add appox. 20 drops of any of these oils to 100ml of a mild shampoo and voila! You have created a dandruff shampoo for yourself. As an additional nighttime treatment (twice a week) you may mix any of these essential oils to Apple Cider Vinegar in the ratio of 1 drop of e.o to one tsp of A.C.Vinegar. Massage this oil only on your scalp, leave overnight, and wash off with your self-created dandruff shampoo in the morning.
Helpful Tip: Choose hair oils / shampoos that contain Juniper berry, Cedarwood, Rosemary or Lemon (for greasy dandruff) and Lavender, geranium or Sandalwood (for dry dandruff).
