Price Adjustment
iStock strives to balance the creative needs of our customers with the financial rewards desired by excellent artists. In 30 days (August 19th, 2007), iStockphoto is adjusting the pricing structure in the Illustration and Video categories and raising the base price of credits.
Check out the details.
The Movement is on
From the time the clock radio goes off until we finally switch off the late night news and haul ourselves back to bed, everyone in the world swims in symbols, signs, and icons. We're all quite literally looking at images all day long.
Of course, some of us are more involved than others with this world of pictures. Some of us make our living creating, selling and discussing images. The world needs to be represented and we're here to do it – distilling the global stock of ideas into something visual, something people will understand. It's a living and we're good at it.
But we do it for something else. Because not every image just goes past us. Sometimes, the picture makes us stop, the photograph arrests us, the drawing makes us forget what we were just doing. We've all had this struck-by-lightning moment with an image.
Roland Barthes calls this arresting potential in imagery the Punctum.

Good to go Getty
Achieving Gold at iStockphoto is pretty h*cking cool. It means you've built an impressive collection of work and are constantly improving and expanding your craft. You've carved out a career as a professional artist, and you deserve all the recognition, accolades and new opportunities coming your way. You've trusted us with your career and now we're showing you how much that means to us.
If you're an iStock exclusive Gold contributor, this September, Getty Images is welcoming you to the award-winning Photodisc collection.
Steel Cage Royale
Tape up your fists and climb into the ring, you Cage-crazed masses. The second anniversary of the Steel Cage is coming up on August 8th, and we're celebrating with violence and loot. We're holding a Battle Royale and you're invited. If you've got the chops, nerve, and iron jaw to stay standing through the relentless barrage we've got planned, you can win big.
There's $5,000 in the bank for this year's tournament winner. Second and third place will get truckloads of swag (and whatever's in Bitter's top drawer) for their efforts.
All Steel Cage winners will now be able to download small iStock images for free, specifically for use in the Steel Cage. It's a reward for all those bruises and beatings you've taken to put on that Mask of the Diablo Azul. Once you've got a win under your belt, while you're engaged in an active match you'll have the option to download small files for free with a special license agreement for use in the Steel Cage only (yes, we'll be able to tell if you're using them elsewhere. We know everything.) You can download up to 5 free images for each round. And we're still giving away credit prizes at the end of every match too. So get in there and get your knuckles bloody, and get the credit that's coming to you.
Watch the Cage for more details in the next few weeks.
Muy Grande
It's official. We're now 2 million members strong. Kudos to Brandon Elrod, from Foothill Ranch, California. Brandon, a certified arborist whose initial iStock purchase was of trees (for real). He will receive a prize package including 2,000 site credits. Other new members joining around the two millionth mark hailed from Australia, Canada, China, the Philippines, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Bronze Canister Adjustments
We're reducing the required downloads to become Bronze from 500 to 250. To join the exclusives team, contributors need a 50% approval rate, so keep those files coming. We want to see you hit the next level.
Cageside: uniball vs. advocatedesigns
Mr. Potatohead never had it so good. Or so...weird. This week's Steel Cage match between uniball and advocate designs is filled with bizarro toys and sinking ships. There' s even a peanut gallery.

Photoshop CS2: Copying Layer Styles
So you've made that perfect drop shadow. Now you need to add it to another layer. Instead of Control-clicking (PC: Right-clicking) the Layer Style icon to conjure up a contextual menu where you can copy and paste it, just press and hold the Option key (PC: Alt) and drag the effect onto another layer.
