Nice to hear from you, Leslie.
Hope things are going well and you are perhaps beginning to see tangible results from your Agnihotra.
You actually almost answered one of your questions by another of your questions. The true power of the mantras is the vibration created by proper recitation of them. That is why we go to great lengths to try to help people pronounce them properly.
The meaning of the words is less important than the vibrations produced. In the sunrise mantra, soorya is Sanskrit for the sun. You may be familiar with the Hatha Yoga posture named "Sooyanamaskar." This literally translates to "salutation to the sun."
Swaha is one of two Sanskrit words that have no actual meaning. The other is Om. But swaha is the word that accompanies offerings to fires such as Agnihotra. Idam Na Mama means, "it is not I," the meaning being that the one doing the fire is not attached for his/herself to the process, but more doing it as a service or responsibility to the atmosphere.
At sunset, agnaye means fire and comes from the root "agni," as in Agnihotra and as Sanskrit is said to be the first language of this planet and most if not all words in most languages derive from it, the English word "ignite" derives from agni.
I will defer to Patty to answer your query about working with plants as that is her area of expertise. Suffice it to say in short that plants thrive in Agnihotra atmosphere and there are other simple fires that may be done in atmosphere already permeated with Agnihotra that may be used in more serious gardening/farming ventures. I don't recall whether you got one of the books we sell entitled, "Homa Therapy: Our Last Chance." It has many, many pages about Homa Therapy farming practices.
Best of luck and let us know how things are going there, please.

Abel, Patty, and Barry,
What do the words mean in the mantra's?
What is the power behind them?
Review how to work with plants.
Thanks,
Leslie
