The Tenth Day of the Ten Days of Awe

Each Religious/Spiritual Tradition brings us
some really great spiritual practices that can
meaning to our own practices.
Here is a poem that reflects some of the
essential themes that are part of the Ten
Days of Awe, the time period between
the Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur
that begins Sunday Eve.
Rosh Hashanah coincided with the beginning
of the Fall Equinox, and a Solar Eclipse.
All these energies signify New Beginning.
September 7th we had a lunar eclispe that
asked us to let go of what was not working in our lives.
There was an energy of No Return. You can't keep doing
Life that way.
IF we are going to experience this New Millennium
as 1000 years of Peace, one of the essentials is
feeling free to draw from various spiritual traditions
that are at the foundation of our modern Religious practices.
IT is good to separate what is static from what has meaning
for us personally.
One of the themes of Rosh Hashanah is letting go of all
Vows we have made at this time that signals The Birthday
of the Universe.
We can accept that truly this is the Birthday of the Universe--
a New Year for us that began at the Fall Equinox.
This is in nature a time of harvest and a planting of new seeds.
That is the energy of the new moon.
My friend Mark Victor Hansen renews his marriage vows
each fall to his wife of many years.
Can you imagine letting go of all your vows--
and then restating the commitments you have
as you want them now?
What an Spiritual Accounting Process!
Here is a reading that I did at the Birthday of the Universe
service at this year's Whole Being Weekend.
We all said the words.
___
Reach Deep. Reach High.
God has made us to Plant the Sacred in Everyday Life.
The year is over. A new year begins. The year had crisis.
Some good will come from this. We can see what happens this way.
Reach Deep. Reach High.
The Soul cannot be put down, only risen up. No struggle too immense.
No challenge cannot be addressed, licked, sealed, forgiven, forgotten.
Reach Deep. Reach High.
Fears are released. The anxious moments have no bearing, not now.
The words we wish we never said,
their power returns to dust.
All is done. Vows are gone.
We can only reaffirm again
what continues to have meaning.
These are days of awe. Only God could have made
such a profound accounting process.
Only God could have made
such a profound capacity for new scr1pt making. Take Two:
Reach Deep. Reach High.
Experience again the invisible unbroken cord
between heaven and earth inside us.
All that was achieved, all passion felt, all smiles shared,
all good grown becomes again NOW a seed. Open. Open the gates.
All thoughts return now, this very moment to dream.
All dreams buried deep, cried for, felt--they are revealed once again.
May all wounds return to fertile wombs,
life again become pregnant with meaning.
What God has planted deepest in our Souls
can be felt again as our seed dreams.
May we return and be renewed as all SEEDS,
and GRAINS we can hold in the palm
of our organically grown hands. Reach Deep. Reach High.
Oh, Holy Mother earth
how you yearn for each of us, your enchanted gardeners, to plant again.
These are High Holy Days.
Oh precious mind, what will I Harvest next year, this time?
What more can I become. What more can I add to the common good?
What more can I restore to original order? Reach Deep. Reach High.
Oh, how strong this power to create,
that outweighs all else! Thank you, God.
Reach Deep. Reach High. May I plant the sacred in my everyday life.
