Hard drive acting Out
My Mac Hard drive is acting
out again. Did it for the first time
last week, and this internal noise is back,

Have been praying that my Powerbook G4 550 Laptop would
hold up till I finish my Record Keeping. Their was this noise
in the hard drive twice last week and it has been fine since--
until this afternoon. Two hours of on and off clicking sounds.
Stopped what I was doing and backed up the Record Keeping
info that is on Quicken.
Not enough time to really go down to the Apple Store.
I have a meeting at 7.
Part of me would like to just repair this Model.
I called Ron Reff, the man who sold me my first Mac many
years ago. The price of that machine was around the same
as the new macs. That had almost no space, and used floopy
disks a lot.
Ron says he could install a new internal hard drive for $200.00
plus the cost. He will get back with the cost tomorrow.
I am concerned about the time element here.
I was hoping to get this Record Keeping done before
I had to do a big shift of upgrade to a new machine.
There are many things I cannot do on this machine even
if it is working properly.
I cannot open various web sites.
Maybe that can be remedied witjh something other than
Internet Explorer for this Mac. That browser is no longer
supported.
There are so many things to consider.
I have been putting off this decision for many months.
A new machine will allow me to record my voice and make
DVD's for sale.
The expense would be a lot.
Going to do more research here now, rather than
run to the store for an hour.
No sense running out like a chicken without a head.
Machine is behaving now.
One other thing to report...all was o.k.
Then I called Ariella. I heard a sound in the back ground
as if the Mac was restarting by itself.
I got the question Mark...that's enough to bring
anxiety. The question Mark: No Happy face when
it opens...a question mark...hikes...
I told Ariella. I restarted again, and all is O.K.
so far, one hour later.
Then I thought to go down to the store, but that would be
a waste of time...too much energy to go for an hour.
I can research the new macs here.
I wish I could get my needs met with something that was
older.
This Quicken 04 will only be good so long, and Quicken 05 and
o6 need a stronger OS--Operating System.
I ran into that problem that year--they stopped letting me download
transactions with Quicken 02.
I wonder what kind of OS could allow me to use Quicken 05?
I don't know. There I go with the time concern.
Piece meal upgrades will take a lot of time and cost a lot,
likely cheaper than a new Mac.
Going to eat something, and then do some research.
I am tired.
