Heart diseases used to be one of the major killers of the world. What is little known is the fact that there exists a link between heart diseases and dental health.

Most patients of heart diseases simultaneously suffer from the following oral ailments:
1) teeth loss [1]
2) gum diseases [2]
The reason is quite simple in terms of science of this date. Some researchers believe that the bacteria in the mouth that are involved in the development of periodontal disease can move from the mouth into the bloodstream by circulation, elevating C-reactive protein which is a marker for inflammation in the blood vessels. The proof lies in the fact that several species of bacteria causing periodontitis have been found in the atherosclerotic plaque in arteries in the heart and elsewhere. They release toxins which resembles proteins found in the artery and the bloodstream. The way how the immune system over-react to the buildup of these toxins results in inflammation throughout the body, leading to heart diseases and stroke.

Oral bacteria could also harm blood vessels or cause blood clots by releasing toxins that resemble proteins found in artery walls or the bloodstream. It is also possible that inflammation in the mouth revs up inflammation throughout the body, including in the arteries, where it can lead to heart attack and stroke.
The notion that problems related to oral health cause diseases elsewhere in the body makes sense, although it is not easy to prove. Steeve Jobs, the inventor of IPhone who died prematurely of a strange form of pancreatic cancers, also suffered from intense tooth pain while he was still alive.

Oil pulling is important. Oil pulling means rinsing the mouth with a plant oil before brushing the teeth. Oil pulling is the simplest way to treat gum diseases. If there is a real link between oral health and heart health, there is a reason to believe that oil pulling is also good for the heart.
