Your Emotions and Your Brain
Emotional Intelligence Is the Other Kind of Smart.

When emotional intelligence first appeared to the masses in 1995, it served as the missing link in a peculiar finding: people with average IQs outperform those with the highest IQs 70% of the time. This anomaly threw a massive wrench into what many people had always assumed was the sole source of success—IQ. Decades of research now point to emotional intelligence as the critical factor that sets star performers apart from the rest of the pack."[1]
"Emotional intelligence ... is a flexible set of skills that can be acquired and improved with practice. Although some people are naturally more emotionally intelligent than others, you can develop high emotional intelligence even if you aren’t born with it."
From a Human Design perspective the Solar Plexus Center is a "whole body awareness field, the motor of emotional energy" and it operates differently in individuals depending on whether or not this center is defined. In any case it is the center of potential emotional awareness. For those of us who do have this center defined we need the time to allow for emotional clarity before making important decisions.
Talentsmart goes on to say: "Using strategies to increase your emotional intelligence allows the billions of microscopic neurons lining the road between the rational and emotional centers of your brain to branch off small 'arms' (much like a tree) to reach out to the other cells. A single cell can grow 15,000 connections with its neighbors. This chain reaction of growth ensures it’s easier to kick this new behavior into action in the future. Once you train your brain by repeatedly using new emotional intelligence strategies, emotionally intelligent behaviors become habits."

"Developing emotional intelligence through a few key skills:
Emotional intelligence (EQ) is built by reducing stress, remaining focused, and staying connected to yourself and others. You can do this by learning key skills. The first two skills are essential for controlling and managing overwhelming stress and the last three skills greatly improve communication. Each skill builds on the lessons learned in practicing the earlier skills and include:
The ability to quickly reduce stress in the moment in a variety of settings.
The ability to recognize your emotions and keep them from overwhelming you.
The ability to connect emotionally with others by using nonverbal communication.
The ability to use humor and play to stay connected in challenging situations.
The ability to resolve conflicts positively and with confidence."[2]

In addition to the truly awesome Human Design Revelation I am very blessed having the "Teachings of Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov" in my daily life! I subscribe to the "Thought of the day" and it never ceases to nourish my spirit and my soul. I am all grateful!
Here's "The Thought" for today:
"It is important the way things begin, how you make the first gesture or take the first step, what state of mind you are in and what your intentions are. The results you reap throughout your life – the successes or the failures – will depend on how things began. You are surprised: how can a small detail determine a whole chain of circumstances? Just observe yourself. If you start moving when you’re in an agitated state, you unleash chaotic forces. And if you go to work or visit someone in this state, the closer you get to your destination the more agitated you become: you’ll make clumsy gestures, speak carelessly, and then there’ll be a lot of damage to repair, assuming it is possible to repair! If, however, you take the first step in a state of peace and harmony, the further you go the more you’ll feel yourself finding the right attitude and saying the right words. Whatever you do, always be sure to begin well."[3]
I'm finally learning the lessons of "moving" in an agitated state! (Fortunately I really am learning! ; ~ ) Human Design has certainly prepared me for this learning. Then there is the "Gene Keys" which I consider as the "Graduate Course" of Human Design. It is the Gene Keys which give tremendous extension to the 64 Human Design Gates (as well as to the very brief references to the I Ching). The seven Gates/Gene Keys located in the Solar Plexus Center give most obvious underscoring in his regards as the Solar Plexus Center is epi-center for our emotional being! Here is where the emotional waves begin and therefore this is the center of potential emotional awareness and through the awareness - potential awareness of spirit! If you contemplate upon the truth of this along with the fact that your thought is creative I'm sure that you'll better understand why it is said that: "what state of mind you are in and what your intentions are" is so important.[4]
