"...halfway around the world to a public park near Cape Town, South Africa, where you will notice a cube, a metal cube, lying there in the grass. That cube was put there by David Liittschwager, a portrait photographer, who spent a few years traveling the world, dropping one-cubic-foot metal frames into gardens, streams, parks, forests, oceans, and then photographing whatever, or whoever came through."
I'd welcome David's book and I'd also welcome a documentary of this!
"... back to Iowa, where ... science writer Craig Childs, decided to have a little adventure ... smack in the middle of a 600-acre farm in Grundy County ... to see what's living there, other than corn. In other words, a Liittschwager-like census."

After reading that consider the following.
Can the vegan diet (with the inherent obsession to exclude all food from the diet that is of any animal origin) be likened unto this documented "denuded" consequence of mono-culture (as it is presented in the above article)? I believe it can and that it rightly should be likened unto any isolated, fractionated approach to an unsustainable "way of life" that is actually anti life. The article above points to the web of life and that this web includes virtually all the kingdoms of life: the soil, the microbial life, small animal/insects, mammals and it also shows that plant kingdom naturally coexists in the same web with these other kingdoms. Today's mono culture mentality has done it's best to divorce itself from these other kingdoms and the silence is now deafening!
The same kind of deafening silence will be the result of people who compulsively cut themselves off from the natural web of life by excluding their interdependence with the animal kingdom as well as the full enjoyment of a healthy eco-system that depends on the animal kingdom.
