You can easily do it at home where you have control over the menu and the foods that you buy. But what happens if you need to eat out? How can you make sure that you still stick to your raw diet? Here are some tips to help you eat raw when dining out.
Picking a Restaurant
If you are planning a night out, it is important to pick the right type of food establishment. The easiest thing to do is to dine at restaurants that have salads or other vegetable options. Italian restaurants typically have a few raw salads that you can choose from. Steak joints and Mexican places also tend to have raw vegetable options or even salad bars.
There are a few types of restaurants that you will have a hard time finding raw options at. Indian and Asian restaurants, for example, may have vegetarian options but rarely have raw choices.
How to Order Raw Without Stressing
The hardest part about eating raw when dining out is usually ordering. After looking over the extensive menu, it can be difficult to stick to your diet when it is so easy to throw your hands up and not eat raw for a night. This is especially hard when everyone else is ordering big meals and you order a salad. Then you may have to field questions regarding if you want to eat an entree or if you are sick of salads.
Try your best not to fall into the entree trap, and not to let the comments pressure you. Many restaurants have a few salad options with many different vegetables on them. You can order a decent meal and be satisfied with your choice.
Making a Special Request
If you cannot find a decent raw option on the menu, you can request a special order from your waiter. For example, if the restaurant only has a side salad or house salad option, you can have the waiter double the order and put it in one bowl. You can also request extra veggies on your house salad. Check the menu for other vegetables used in the entrees. If a sandwich contains avocado and tomatoes or a pasta has bell peppers, request some on your salad in raw form.
Eating raw is good for your health, but can be difficult to upkeep when dining out. By making sure you pick the right restaurant, ordering smart and requesting extra vegetables if needed, you can easily eat raw and still enjoy a night out.
