Description: Organic Uprising! is an introduction to our current food emergency and how, through starting to grow some of our own food, even one beet, and perhaps, alfalfa in pots, we begin to regain our beat with nature.
Leslie Goldman, Presenter: Leslie Goldman, known as Your Enchanted Gardener, is a full time blogger who advocates for Real Food Safety. His work is called Plant Your Dream and he would like to inspire more people to become Beet Keepers. His current concern is the deregulation of genetically engineered alfalfa and other crops. Currently, he is speaking up for alfalfa through learning to grow it. Leslie lives with others in the Enchanted Garden, a third-acre near SDSU that aims to sustain a natural environment. He uses inspired poetry, photos, and videos to get his message across.

We are one movement, from grassroots to beet tops.
I See and Seed that our President,
who we elected on a platform
of Hope and doing Good for all of us,
is standing with us now in the name of Food Justice.
I See and Seed now that we live in a world of friends,
that industry and international corporations
will stand with all of us now turning our beat around with nature.
Let it be known we have reached a Tipping Point,
and that for the sake of our beloved earth,
we are turning away from technology that harms any of us.
We have gone as far as we can go with Take One
on planet Earth.
We have reached a time for a Take Two for Planet Earth.
The world has been galvanized by events of March 11,
when earth quake hit Japan. On that same day,
key organic Industry leaders shared an inspired message
at the #expowest,
the Natural Product Expo West.
They were looking at the Political Challenge of GMO’s.
This is a moment to claim that we owe our children.
This moment to claim as a time for action.
We need a government leadership that supports Food Justice
and Real Food Safety.
Leadership and all industry are called
now to be the Tipping Point
through dreams we plant now,
so Plant Your Dream.
If we had merely suffered an earthquake on March 11
that would have been disaster enough, but as a lifestyle,
we have been living as an earthquake waiting to happen.
It is time to Shift.
A little more than a year ago, I stood with Dr. Robert Fraley,
the creator of Round Up Ready for Monsanto.
We planted seeds to close the gap
and ease the tension between GMO and Non GMO lovers.
it is through an open and honest Dialogue on Science, Ethics,
and Food, that our world will be saved,
but more than this, it will be saved by more of us turning our own beat around with nature and creating strong local community.
To stand in community, we each need a moment of awakening that comes when we grow a bit of our own food.
Even growing one beet in a pot surrounded by alfalfa seeds is a start.
Less words are needed now.
Radiation is releasing into our oceans off Japan.
We lived in a climate coming from the White House itself
that imagined Genetically Modified Organisms might be good for our economy. That is our past.
It is in each other’s dreams that we are asked to invest.
It is time to return to the Bank of Compost.
GMO is not the wave of our future because
we have a future together on this earth.
The earth already has a perfect technology
for growing dreams and feeding dreams whole, pure,
and natural food. Nuclear power is not the wave of our future.
Nature’s Original Technology is best suited for this earth.
Let us close the gap now in understanding.
Let us, all of us, from our President, his First Lady,
to the heads of industry,
proclaim we are Standing Up for Nature’s Original Technology,
each of us being an Organic Uprising!

and Chewing on Food Safety: A Natonal Conversation is Needed.
A landmark lawsuit filed on March 29 in US federal court seeks to invalidate Monsanto’s patents on genetically modified seeds and to prohibit the company from suing those whose crops become genetically contaminated.
The Public Patent Foundation filed suit on behalf of 270,000 people from sixty organic and sustainable businesses and trade associations, including thousands of certified-organic farmers. In Organic Seed Growers and Trade Association, et al. v. Monsanto, et al. (U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, Case No. 11 CIV 2163), PUBPAT details the invalidity of any patent that poisons people and the environment, and that is not useful to society, two hallmarks of US patent law.
"As Justice Story wrote in 1817, to be patentable, an invention must not be 'injurious to the well being, good policy, or sound morals of society,'” notes the complaint in its opening paragraphs, citing Lowell v. Lewis.
"Stopping GMOs is simply a numbers game. When enough shoppers stop buying GMO brands, the food industry will kick out all genetically modified (GM) ingredients. This happened in Europe, and it's happening in the US with GM bovine growth hormone (rbGH).
"We need about 5% of US shoppers-15 million people or 5.6 million households-to choose healthier non-GMO brands in order to generate a non-GMO tipping point.
"It's just a matter of reaching enough people. That's what our educational tools and talking points are designed to do."

THESE ARE OUR AIMS
1-To support mobilization of one Farmers’ Market in our local area, the Hillcrest Farmers’ Market in San Diego. To continue to work with local organic farmers and help them sell more of their produce.
2-To continue to develop a 1/3 acre parcel of land near San Diego State College named the Enchanted Garden Intentional Community Growing Grounds where those who live here and who live around the world may study our process of learning how to keep the beat with nature through learning to live together cooperatively as a household that seeks to live in harmony with the earth. The motto of the house will be Keep The Beet. Through growing a simple beet in a pot, we can regain our beat with nature. Not all in the house garden. Some like to prepare food. Others help with other jobs, or rent. The land, as of January 2010 is being refinanced. A Trust to hold the land is being explored. The Seed Dream would be to leave a museum and park for future generations to learn from this experiment in cooperative living that has been going on since the early 1970′s. The intent is that what we learn here can help others, and Washington, understand and adapt to some of the shifts being asked of all of us now.
3- To develop relationships with those who influence Washington and government. A vast coalition across all political, religious, and philosophical lines has now formed. Mainstream media needs to be reached through bloggers filling the gap where journalism once told all points of view. Elected leaders need to be encouraged to follow the principles expressed in the song “America The Beautiful.”
4- We see the world as we know it now coming to an end. A Shift has already happened. It is for each of us to adapt to the earth and relearn the laws of nature, rather than attempt to further adapt nature to our ways. The source of our economic and health crisis is that we have lost our beat with nature. We can regain the beet through becoming once again a nation of gardeners who live in a world of gardeners. One Pot+One person=You are a Gardener. Start to grow your own food now.
