AT THE FOOD JUSTICE SPEAK OUT
APRIL 9, 2011 AT THE MID CITY GYM FOUR PLENARY SPEAKERS AND YOU SPEAK OUT ON THE ISSUES OF FOOD JUSTICE, THE SOLUTIONS, AND HOW YOU ARE GOING TO FURTHER BE CULTIVATING FOOD JUSTICE AS A RESULT OF THIS HISTORIC EVENT. This is not just the Cultivating Food Justice Event, This is a historic event.
This is City Heights... where Sol Price, a good hearted entrepreneur, looked around in 1996m and said this new police station deserves a gym too! He said, Let us make an Urban Village, and now it exists where we come to gather to take the next steps to make a tipping point for the kind of world we were born to live in. I look at you and I see dreams over your head, and I know that for those dreams to come down to earth, you need to Plant Your Dream. To do that you need Food...good food, you need Food Justice... that means good food for everybody, that means community gardens everywhere, and a goat milking coop like we already have at City Farmers Nursery, that means all of us making new friends here in City Heights during the next two days, picking up the trash behind the fence next to Saint Mark's Episcopal Church, one of our venues. That means being thankful for Antonio Fierros planting little seedlings at the beyond Aquaponics center in raised beds that was once pavement, raised beds where across the street we see a new buildings that someday will come across the street to buy fresh caught Talapia, and get farm fresh greens.
I have walked these City Heights Streets.
I see little gardens popping up at La Maestra Health Center where every one can learn that Nature has in mind a different kind of technology that is already perfect.
When I say be an Organic Uprising, just as little organic alfalfa seeds, I am not just talking about going organic or eating organic food. I am talking about turning our beat around with nature because we get confident we can overcome our food emergency through each of us being an Organic Uprising!
EVERYONE IS WORKING TOGETHER NOW.... THIS IS CREATING THE TIPPING POINT.
Let's Move....One Movement, One Organic Uprising, each of us standing up for Nature's Original Technology,
each of us being an organic uprising, just like little organic alfalfa seeds growing!

What does Cultivating Food Justice locally mean to you?

April 15, 2010, a few days before the 2010 Cultivating Food Justice
Event at SDSU, Michelle Obama, our First Lady, came to the New Roots Community Farm to launch her national campaign called “Let’s Move!” She said that all eyes of the nation were on this plot of land.
One year later, we return to City Heights for our 2011 Cultivating Food Justice Event. We begin with a Speak Out on Cultivating Food Justice. What messages do Washington and city government here in San Diego need to know about Cultivating Food Justice? What messages do we need to Speak Out among ourselves as we seek to create a local sustainable movement? Michelle Obama said “Let’s Move!” I say that the movement can be called an Organic Uprising! By Organically grown, I mean a lifestyle in sync with the beat of nature. Standing Up for Nature’s Original Technology seems a profound priority now.
That is my Take. What is Yours?
The format for the hour long plenary will be four speakers, each with five minutes. Then, we want to hear from you on what Cultivating Food Justice means to you? What messages do we want to speak out as eyes turn again to City Heights?

President Obama was at a dinner a number of years back. He was asked about his support for the Sustainability movement that includes Cultivating Food Justice. He and his wife were sympathetic but he said that the movement itself would would have to Grow Strong and show its strength before he could take action. He said, “Make Me Do It!!” because he felt his hands were tied.
Then he turned to his wife, First Lady Michelle Obama, and said, “Baby! It’s Your Project!”

At the Fourth Annual Cultivating Food Justice Conference, we get a read out of the state of the movement from City Heights, San Diego, one of the nation’s top sustainability movement cities.
Many eyes and hears from across the nation and world are looking to us now to show the strength of our movement. Organic Industry leaders are sending their support and encouragement. Now is the time to show our strength locally and nationally.
