Healthy, sustainable food is necessary for our planet and our lives, yet it is quickly becoming a hardship for people to afford and find. Our supermarkets are stocked with “modified food products” shipped from every corner of the globe. Our economic policies favor large-scale farming over small, local farms. But a movement is building in response, and one of its most dedicated voices is right here, in San Diego.
I have been so busy writing about
the Speak Out on Saturday morning at 9 am- 10 am,
and so tired from working so many hours on the
2011 Cultivating Food Justice Event
that I forget to tell..
ORGANIC UPRISING
Organic Uprising Sunday Session 10:45-11:45 am
Organic Uprising!
Standing Up for Nature's Original Technology
Description: Organic Uprising! is an introduction to our current food emergency and how, through starting to grow some of our own food, even one beet, and perhaps, alfalfa in pots, we begin to regain our beat with nature.
Leslie Goldman, Presenter: Leslie Goldman, known as Your Enchanted Gardener, is a full time blogger who advocates for Real Food Safety. His work is called Plant Your Dream and he would like to inspire more people to become Beet Keepers. His current concern is the deregulation of genetically engineered alfalfa and other crops. Currently, he is speaking up for alfalfa through learning to grow it. Leslie lives with others in the Enchanted Garden, a third-acre near SDSU that aims to sustain a natural environment. He uses inspired poetry, photos, and videos to get his message across.

WHO CONTRIBUTED TO THIS EVENT
CLOSE THE GAP
A TIPPING POINT HAS BEEN REACHED.
ALL TOGETHER NOW STANDING UP FOR NATURE'S ORIGINAL TECHNOLOGY
each of us being an ORGANIC UPRISING!
I claim now we are One Organic Movement, Organic Uprising!
We are one movement, from grassroots to beet tops.
I See and Seed that our President, who we elected on a platform
of Hope and doing Good for all of us, is standing with us now in the name of Food Justice.
I See and Seed now that we live in a world of friends, that industry and international corporations
will stand with all of us now turning our beat around with nature.
Let it be known we have reached a Tipping Point,
and that for the sake of our beloved earth,
we are turning away from technology that harms any of us.
We have gone as far as we can go with Take One
on planet Earth. We have reached a time for a Take Two for Planet Earth.
The world has been galvanized by events of March 11,
when earth quake hit Japan. On that same day,
key organic Industry leaders shared an inspired message at the #expowest,
the Natural Product Expo West.
They were looking at the Political Challenge of GMO’s.
This moment was claimed as one we owe our children.
This moment was claimed as a time for action.
We need a government leadership that supports Food Justice and Real Food Safety.
Leadership and all industry are called now to be the Tipping Point through dreams we plant now,
so Plant Your Dream.
If we had merely suffered an earthquake on March 11
that would have been disaster enough, but as a lifestyle,
we have been living as an earthquake waiting to happen. It is time to Shift.
A little more than a year ago, I stood with Dr. Robert Fraley,
the creator of Round Up Ready for Monsanto. We planted seeds to close the gap
and ease the tension between GMO and Non GMO lovers.
it is through an open and honest Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Food, that our world will be saved,
but more than this, it will be saved by more of us turning our own beat around with nature
and creating strong local community.
To stand in community, we each need a moment of awakening that comes when we grow a bit of our own food.
Even growing one beet in a pot surrounded by alfalfa seeds is a start.
Less words are needed now. Radiation is releasing into our oceans off Japan.
We lived in a climate coming from the White House itself that imagined
Genetically Modified Organisms might be good for our economy.
That is our past. It is in each other’s dreams that we are asked to invest.
It is time to return to the Bank of Compost.
GMO is not the wave of our future because we have a future together on this earth.
The earth already has a perfect technology for growing dreams and feeding dreams whole, pure,
and natural food. Nuclear power is not the wave of our future.
Nature’s Original Technology is best suited for this earth.
Let us close the gap now in understanding.
Let us, all of us, from our President, his First Lady, to the heads of industry,
proclaim we are Standing Up for Nature’s Original Technology, each of us being an Organic Uprising!

GARY BROUGHT OUT A DELIGHTFUL
"JUST EAT ORGANIC" WRAP SONG
Often it takes a galvanizing issue to get people to stop bickering and rally around a common cause. Such a renewed sense of purpose was recently provided by the USDA’s approval of genetically engineered alfalfa, which has brought the entire organic industry to its feet. What made me especially happy was seeing key leaders like Walter Robb, co-CEO of Whole Foods, Michael Funk, chairman of United Natural Foods (UNFI), George Siemen, president of Organic Valley and Gary Hirshberg, founder and CEO of Stonyfield, come together to lead a conversation with perhaps 500 organic activists. To me, it offered real hope that organic’s share of the retail food market will indeed manage to get beyond the three percent it currently comprises, and gave me more confidence than I’ve felt in nine years that it will continue to expand. For rising to the challenge created by this ill-advised decision (the alarming implications of which are discussed at the web site of The Organic Center), the leaders of the industry deserve our collective gratitude.
I set aim to fertilize an Organic Uprising at #expowest
through my Plant Your Dream blogs, and planting organic alfalfa
with organic stakeholders. The intentions prevailed. The four bowls
or organic seedlings were an inspiration to many as the photos reveal.

HISTORY IN THE MAKING
David Bronner, grandson of the famed soap maker Dr. Bronner, and president of Dr. Bronners "Magic All-One!" was one of more than 500 industry leaders and participants in a historic gathering that took place Friday March 11 at the Natural Product Expo West.
David Bronner, is also a
sponsor of the gift of photo galleries on this page. http://www.drbronner.com/
Thanks to the sponsors of this gallery for underwriting the time
we are taking to tell the story of the the planting of the Tipping Point.
Friday March 11 is a day that goes down in history.
It was a day when Nature's Original Technology asked to be recognized.
In Anaheim, 500 members of the Natural Product Industry gathered
to align behind NON-GMO and hear one another.
That same day, 5500 miles away, earthquake hit Japan.
What is Mother Earth asking of us now?

to be a gallery sponsor of photos for the Organic Uprising Campaign.
Kelly and I connected at the Organic Farming Research Foundation (OFRF) Luncheon.
Kelly is VP of Government and Industry Relations
and heads Organic Stewardship for WhiteWave Foods Company.
When I reached out to Kelly to support Organic Uprising in #CityHeights,
she got on the phone with her allies. They arranged to ship organic cheese samplers
for me to give away at the 2011 Cultivating Food Justice Event, April 9-10, 2011
in City Heights and at the Grow Strong Fundraiser,
Saturday afternoon and evening April 9.
WhiteWave's mission is to be the Earth's Favorite
Food Company. Go White wave!!!! Kelly Shea won my heart
and ongoing support at the 2011 Natural Product Expo West.
Sean Ahearn, Director of Development and Programming for the
Harmony Festival signed on to be a co-sponsor of our show photos
and Organic Uprising at the #expowest Video when we met thanks
to Seleyn Deyarus at the Organic Roots party Saturday night
March 12, 2011 att he Anaheim Plaza Hotel.
Read Anthony Zolezzi's new post on the Natural Product Expo West.
He mentions the launch of the Organic Center Mission Organic 9 years ago
that hoped to raise organic usage by 10% by 2010. We were at 3 % last year he points out.
I for one am starting a new paradigm as Anthony Zolezzi called
Organic Uprising! We simple have to turn the beat of nature around by
growing a bit of our own food. One Pot + One Person= You are a Gardener.
It is essential to say No to GMO now; however, we have to say Yes to Nature's Original Technology.
We are called now to do what we have done as a species since the beginning, be and live organically.
