During the days that GE--Genetically Engineered alfalfa
was deregulated entirely through the will of the White House
coming down through its USDA, I felt compelled to do something.
The beat of nature, that speaks to me
through my very own organic beet that I grow in a pot,
spoke to me.

Start growing organic alfalfa.
Out of this has come our Spring campaign on
the Plant Your Dream Blog.
The campaign is called Organic Uprising!
At the time I started to plant the organic alfalfa seeds,
people around the world were having an uprising.
This was an issue of democracy--grassroots democracy--
wanting to express itself.
The issue of organic alfalfa--and all the other heirloom seeds
having their right to grow--is also at the core of the
values inherent in the original American Dream.
For more than one year now, I have said that
we need an open Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Food.
This idea is modeled on a committee of the AAAS,
the American Association for the Advancement of Science,
our most respected body of science.
They have DOSER, a committee that aims to
open up understandings that are belief in Reiigion,
including Fundamental Christian practices do not
In a fundamental way as well, the awesome nature
of a tiny seed represents an integrity and divinity
that asks to be upheld as we explore the the
worlds where Ethics and Food meet.
There has always been invention in the world
of modifying seeds through human ingenuity to
create more abundant resources for survival
and thrival; however, it is not our place as humans
to use take science and use it to alter the bonds of wholeness.
When we engineer genes, when we manipulate them
to turn them into real estate, patent them,
and based on what we call science,
we are standing on shaky ground.
This is part of the Dialogue that is needed now.
Real Science is asked to have its say now.
Ethics and Science go hand in hand.
Food and Democracy go hand in hand.
They want their say now.
The world, evolution, strides forward organically.
It always has. It always will.
Truly, we are all called to stand in opposition
to GMO foods. At the same time,
we are asked to stand in favor of Nature's Original Technology.
This, my friend, is the time for
Organic Uprising!

WE STAND UNITED IN OPPOSITION TO GE ALFALFA

We stand united in opposition to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) decision to once again allow unlimited, nationwide commercial planting of Monsanto's genetically engineered (GE) Roundup Ready alfalfa, despite the many risks to organic and conventional farmers.
Last spring more than 200,000 people submitted comments to the USDA highly critical of the substance and conclusions of its draft EIS on GE Alfalfa. Instead of responding to these comments and concerns, including expert comments from farmers, scientists, academics, conservationists, and food safety and consumer advocates, the USDA has chosen instead to listen to a handful of agricultural biotechnology companies.
