So, yesterday I decided to begin a water fast to detox and kickstart some weightloss prior to beginning a fitness routine. I work overnights, so technically my fast started at midnight last night. Day one is almost over! A little background on me and why I have chosen this path.

All of my life I have been very active in competitive sports and have never had a weight problem. I would maintain a weight around 115 pounds and had the appetite of a 200lb man. Almost four years ago I was in a very serious car accident, that broke 16 bones and required about an 8 month recovery until I felt just about normal again. During and following my recovery I gained about 60 pounds that I have struggled to lose. I am still very active, yet nothing I try seems to lead to permanent weight loss. I feel "in-shape" but do not see the results physically. For example, two weeks ago I travelled west into the mountains and trekked a 27 mile hike of the Continental Divide above 13000 ft and two days later hiked and summited Mt. Yale. Hiking and doing endurance activities like that are very common for me, especially since I live in Colorado. I average about 30miles a week hiking with my dog when at home. If I keep myself on a strict diet I can loss 10lbs in a short amount of time, but never more than that; even if I continue the effort for 3-4 months. I've been checked out by a doctor and everything looks good, yet I am still 169 pounds and only 5'2. I wouldnt say I over-eat, eat fast food, drink alcohol or have an unhealthy lifestyle so it is very frustrating. I do partially feel that the car accident has affected my ability to lose weight and maintain a lower weight, but I'll try again and again because I am so unhappy with my body.

So now I begin a water fast to kickstart a detox and weightloss before beginning a trail running/cardio fitness plan. I attempted a 15 day fast about 2 years ago and only lasted about 12.5 days before I felt completely drained and chose to eat. I dont recall how much weight I lost then, I think my chart I made is lost in storage somewhere.

Having almost completed day one I feel pretty good. Hunger pains were a little present this afternoon, but I chose to go for a bike ride to forget about them. Since I work overnights I think fasting is easier since I already live on a crazy schedule with no real set meal times or sleep times. Good luck to everyone on here!!
