The Call of Gaia: George Drake, Ph.C
Meet a man named George Drake, Ph.C last night
at the reception following Dr. Peter Agre's Opening Ceremony
at the American Association for the Advancement of Science
(AAAS) Annual Meeting. He gifted me with a copy of his
book, and told me he was here at the meeting of
the nation's scientists to find partners for his
project to colonize Mars.

Met a man with a cane
last night at the reception
following the inspiring talk
of Dr. Peter Agre, President of
AAAS, the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
There are many forward looking scientists
here at the Annual Meeting.
It is an honor to welcome AAAS
to San DIego. This is an organization
that has really caught my eye.
It has also caught the eye of
the President I helped elect
who now handles government affairs
for me.
Dr Agre and past president
past president Gilbert S. Omenn.,
M.D., Ph.D. were two of our Presidents
advisors when he came up with his science platform.
I spent time with both men last night.
Of the three of us, I am the only one who
has not yet personally sat with the president.
I am looking forward to that invite.
I want to thank him for his stand on not eating beets.
Last Tuesday I was in Los Angeles teaching
science in the classroom of Ms Eva Becker, my niece.
I introduced the KEEP THE BEET program to
three classrooms full of 15 year olds.
More than 10.6 of them actually planted
their Seed Dreams with beet seeds.
That project, in aligning with Michelle Obama,
aims to help kids lose weight.
She is also one of my favorite people and
national policy makers through the work
she has done on the White House lawn.
I personally prefer Food Not Lawns.
There are many national policy makers
and global leaders from more than 80 nations
down here at the San Diego Convention Center.
I am especially looking forward to tonights
Journalism Awards Banquet from 7-10 PM
at the San Diego Natural History Museum
one of my favorite scientific outposts for
studying bones from dying epochs.
Last night, I met a very interesting man.
His name is George Drake, Ph.C.
His book is called IN THE SERVICE OF GAIA:
THE CALL.
He had a very curious idea that our planet
was in its last days. He was at the AAAS Annual Meeting
to meet other scientists who might want to partner
with his idea to colonize Mars.
I asked him if colonizing Mars might effect
the atmosphere here on earth in some way.
I believe that all the planets are interconnected
in some strange poetic manner. What we do here,
effects over there.
He told me that It took two years to go and come
back from Mars. He did not think that shifting
the atmosphere over there would effect the atmosphere
down here.
He was under the impression that we had about 300 years
to get out of here and over there.
He told me that our earth was like a spinning top,
the kind I played with as a kid.
He said we were beginning to wobble.
He said that when a person interferes with the wobble
it basically finishes the job of bottoming out the top.
He said there really wasn't anything too much we could
do not to interfere with the movement of the top.
I wanted to ask him more, but our elevator reached
the ground floor by the time we landed there.
I assume he thought that we as humans had done
something to put our planet out of order.
George Drake told me he was writing a new book,
so he gave me his old one,
IN THE SERVICE OF GIAI; THE CALL.
I imagine I will be seeing the man with the cane
again at the AAAS Annual Meeting 2010.
