Review: Roots of Giving Market @ Point Loma Nazarene College

ROOTS OF GIVING MARKET at POINT LOMA NAZARENE COLLEGE
4-8 PM, December 5 touched me deeply. I felt a spirit of Christ
passing through the event, though I did not hear any preaching.
I saw God's Word in action. I saw love and caring for His world
in action.

AUDRA EVOY, Environmental Science Major at
Point Loma NAZARENE UNIVERSITY, bought a
coffee bean plant December 4, 09 at the
ROOTS OF GIVING MARKET. With her in this
photo (Rt) is COURTNEY WINLINK, the main
organizer of the ROOTS OF GIVING MARKET
that took place December 4, 09 at the
POINT LOMA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY.

Audra is a volunteer
for the organization PLANT WITH PURPOSE.
The group was offering Fair Trade coffee
at their table, and so purchasing and adopting
a coffee bean plant to help save thousands
of rare fruit trees and plants from around the world
seemed a natural fit. Audra wrote to me,
"I want to help with exotic plants." Audra's
adoption is the beginning of the national campaign
to secure the future of the Vista Nursery
through adopting out thousands of near homeless
plants. The campaign is sponsored by Angel
ANTHONY RUSSO founder of
BIOSMART COMPOSTABLE
SUGAR CANE BAGASSE DINNERWARE

a caring green company that aims to replace
stryofoam usage with the sugar cane byproduct.

Anthony adopted the whole nursery
a few days before the December 1 deadline of rent.
By January 1, he will launch a state of the art
web site geared to helping Sustainability Students
in more than 59 university purchase and adopt
coffee bean, and others rare fruit trees and plants
from around the world.

Three acres of plants faced eviction December 1,
but enough money was raised to give thirty
more days of life to the plants, while a long range
business plan falls in place.

This is the free certificate that you get when you
join with AUDRA EVOY, Point Loma Nazarene Univesity
Environmental Science Major to give a home to thousands
of near homeless rare fruit trees and plants from around the world.
Audra purchased and adopted a Coffee bean plant that will grow
in her dorm room. Thousands of other college students around
the world will soon be adopting coffee bean and other plants
to help the near-homeless rare fruits breathe easier.
This is a rare opportunity to save genetic biodiversity now.
These plants at the Exotica Rare Fruit Nursery are a national
treasure we cannot afford to lose.

Hi Leslie,

Britta Turner got in touch with me and asked if you guys could come set up and sell plants at our Market this Friday on campus. I really like the idea of it, but will you tell me more about it? How much are you selling them for? This market's not about making a profit, and the creation care part of it is meant to fit into the idea the God made this beautiful creation, and it is our responsibility to learn and live sustainably in order to care for and preserve it. How do you fit into this? I'd live to hear more about you! Also, we could provide a table, but that's about it. Alright, let me know! Can't wait to hear from you

Courtney Wantink

I participated on Friday, December 4, 2009, in an awe-inspiring
spirit filled humanitarian event. I may be touched forever.

The event was organized by a band of volunteers, that appeared
to be led by COURTNEY WANTINK. Courtney assembled a band
of caring, loving vendors, some that could walk with the Christ
Himself in ancient times. She was assisted by a Tribe of volunteers
who were extremely helpful. All my needs for extra hands were
volunteered, and when it was time for teardown, the first person
I asked spent the next fifteen minutes with me. We had a lovely
talk. I learned a lot about him. He was a carpenter, and through
his liberal arts education at POINT LOMA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY,
he wanted to go into the world to uplift the poor and disenfrancised.
Sound familiar?

The vendors at the Roots of Giving Market were about God's work.
What was remarkable wasthat I did not hear any of them pushing their believe system. I did not smell a fundamentalist anywhere, the kind of person who believes that there is only one way, and all other ways are somehow tainted or less of God. This is the new spirituality of this day from Your Enchanted Gardener's perspective.

Your Enchanted Gardener, for those who are new to the
PLANT YOUR DREAM BLOG, is my higher self. My higher self, for others
new to this blog, takes orders from a simple beet plant called
KEEP THE BEET MEDIA STAR, The World's FIrst Talking Beet Plant.

For more than two years now, I have been driving around a beet plant,
who a number of years ago, decided courageously to leave the field
and begin to issue her own "Beet-a-tudes." Keep the Beet's Beet-a-tudes
are not to be confused with JESUS' Beatitudes, although it must be said
there are similarities between the cartoon character-like beet plant
that I chauffuer around and the Jesus, the Son of God, who came to help
uplift all human life; That my friends, includes beet plants.

Many people today have forgotten that beets belong to God. Keep the
Beet's spiritual as well as earthly teaching is that, through growing
a simple beet in a pot, one from seed or from a local organic farmer
that we repot, we can regain our confidence to grow a bit of our own food.
We can, through growing a beet in a pot, also reconnect with the "beat of nature."

Most of us have forgotten that we each are here on earth, as Jesus
walked, to love one another. Not these students. Not Keep the Beet
Media Star.

Keep the Beet has not forgotten the simple message of Jesus.
I would have to say that the students of the POINT LOMA NAZARENE
UNIVERSITY, the ones I interacted with between 4-8 PM on Friday,
were as well of the most noble of human beings.

The intent of the Roots of Giving Market was expressed in the email
above from Courney Wintink:

"This market's not about making a profit, and the creation care part of it is meant to fit into the idea the God made this beautiful creation, and it is our responsibility to learn and live sustainably in order to care for and preserve it. How do you fit into this?"

My ENCHANTED GARDEN ministry pretty much fit into
that catagory on Friday at the Market. I gave away about eleven
pots filled with FOXFARM Ocean and Forest fine blend of soil. I gave lovingly
seeds from a Silver Box that contained the deepest Seed Dreams of the
lovely students who enthusiastically came to me wanting to take
up Mother Earth on her invite: Mother Earth says, Plant Your Dream!
So does Keep the Beet Media Star, the World's FIrst Talking Beet Plant.
I gave away freely, two each, sugar cane bagasse pots that were given
to be from ANTHONY RUSSO, my sponsor from BIOSMART, the Enchanted
Gardener's global leader in our Keep the Beet's THE END OF SYROFOAM
campaign.

DECEMBER 4, 09.

Toward the end of the event, after connecting very strongly with
another student, MELISSA HAMMEL, I actually sold something,
a Job's Tear necklace for $20.00. That necklace was made from
bead seeds grown in my front year and strung by Christina,
my housemate Adriana's sister. I also sold one package of
SEEDS OF LIFE FULFILLMENT, the Beet Seeds, to Melissa. Then,
after packing up my table, I went joyfully walking through the
market.

I visited Audra at her PLANT WITH PURPOSE table. They had
scarfs from Thailand for sale, and bags of Fair Trade Coffee.
I bought a scarf for $20.00 made of hemp. Then, I sold Audra
a coffee bean plant, part of a project Keep the Beet has me doing
to find homes for thousands of her plant friends who want to break
out of the EXOTICA RARE FRUIT NURSERY in VISTA and find new
homes.

The idea of matching Audra with a coffee bean plant when they
had coffee for sale at the table seemed inspired. Leave it to
Keep the Beet for once again being a great director for my life.
My or my, what a simple world this would be, if Keep the Beet
were in charge of what we do and where we go!

The experiences I had with the students on Friday may have been
more healing to me than perhaps it was to them. I cannot say. I can only
say, it felt very good, as the word spread, to have the most delightful
students approach my stall, and ask if they could plant a dream.

One of the first to approach was AUDRA EVOY, an Environmental Science
major at Point Loma Nazarene University. I went through the process with
Audra. Sharp and quick, a heart filled with love, and eyes filled with innocent joy, Audra was a good student of Keep the Beet. I went through the process
of Planting a Beet Seed with her.

Then when the next student came up, which was Courtney, the organizer
of the Roots of Giving Market, I asked Audra to guide her frined Courney
through the process. This was so sweet to watch! I was making a video
of Audra guiding Courtney. You can see the Video here and on YOUTUBE,

This is a photo from the Christmas Concert I attended
following the ROOTS OFGIVING MARKET. I had a full day Friday.
I did the Market following working all day. I planned to go
to the DANCEJAM Friday night after the concern. I sensed
I had some potentional difficult clearing to do with my allies
who are part of the ROOTS SUSTAINABLE FOOD PROJECT.
I took about 90 minutes and enjoyed this awe inspiring
concert, to refill. I closed my eyes and just took in the healing
and wonderful spirit. I loved singing the Christmas songs
with the group at the end.

with my dearest of friends HANI ILIAIAN
who owns the MIDDLE EAST FOODS
on El Cajon Blvd, a couple miles from
the ENCHANTED GARDEN INTENTIONAL COMMUNITY
where I live near SDSU. Hani was born in Bethlehem.
He speaks better hebrew than I do. He is a devout
Moslem. We are launching a new business adventure
at his store that will be called NAZIRs ORGANCS.
I am going to speak at the Mosque about organic food
through Hani's invite. We want to help our Arab brothers
understand why growing exotic rare fruit trees from around
the world and eating organic local food is a good idea.
I will be inviting Hani to the intimate interfaith gathering
I will do here December 12. I am now sure if he can come,
but I will invite him and his lovely family. I will also invite
my new friends who are students at the Point Loma
Nazarene University It would be good to have an
atheist or agnostic here too. Maybe there is one
among my ROOTS SUSTAINABLE FOOD PROJECT allies.
I will ask on Monday. How about a Pagan friend,
sez Keep the Beet.

ceremonialist recently moving back to San Diego. Beloved
Dianna is a "dreamer." years ago, there was a painter who
lived in Phoenix, whose name I have been asked not to
include on the Plant Ypur Dream blog. Dianna saw that
painter speaking before a large audience, and reaching
large groups of people with his spiritual messages that
came from JOHN THE DIVINE, The Son of Zebedee.
Dianna dreamed me up to help that painter who later
became famous through his association with
ShIRLEY MACLAINE. He was featured in a film called
OUT ON A LIMB, and a book of the same name.

KEEP THE BEET Media Star will also be present,
as will I. That only leaves seven more available spaces,
so if you want to be invited, now is the time to
