No matter what each Province or territory chooses to call the day, it is a long weekend to celebrate the very short summer.
The people love this holiday so much and it is full of excitement and joy. Many people do celebrate this holiday in one fashion or the next with their families. As they gather with their families and sit around the campfires and they sing traditional Canadian songs, cook their meals and romp through the fields with their children. Whatever the family decides to do whether it is going to the park, going camping or simply having a fun time in their back yard, it is all done enthusiastically.
Besides the family get gatherings, they have parades, fireworks and local celebrations with singers and dancers. Each Province decides what kind of entertainment they will provide and who exactly will be their main speakers. The overall theme at all the celebrations is pride in their area and love of where they belong.
Each area or territory flies their own particular flag form their own area or their coat of arms. What is a coat of arms? It is a design belonging to a certain person, region or group of people that may be used in many ways. In this 21st century, some are still using and are represented by their coat of arms. Some of the territories, who choose not to celebrate Civic Holiday, choose to use flowers, birds, trees, or gemstones in place of the flags. The day is known in France as "le Conge statutairedu mois d'aout," In America, some have started to celebrate this day and use many different names. As there are many Canadians living in America, they choose to bring honor to all Canadians on this day. It is a day to show the rest of the world what Canada has achieved.
