Oh, yay! Today is a good day. One of the reasons I started this was really, really shallow, but it was a reason. Back when I started law school, I spent about $2000 on new suits, and then outgrew them as my weight climbed back up the scale. I tried some of them on this morning, and THREE of them fit again! Two of them were still snug, but there's no doubt that they will fit by the end of my fast.

The biggest difference is in my waist. I had always thought that my stomach was big because of FAT, and no matter what sort of exercises I did or how much weight I lost, my stomach still remained proportionately large. This is the first time that my stomach got noticeably trimmer, and not just proportionately smaller. I realize that this is because I no longer have all of that crap in my intestines. I don't feel bloated and gassy anymore. I'm not looking forward to facing that again when I resume eating. I plan on consuming a lot more raw fruits and vegetables in the future, to ensure that things actually move through my system. What a huge difference! Even my husband has noticed and remarked on it. Now I actually think that I may have a flat stomach one day. Who knew?

I aso realize that something in my diet does not agree with. My mood, my intestinal tract, and my energy are so much better now. Obviously, detoxing from all of the stimulant/depressant chemical cocktails I had come to depend on daily has been a huge help, but I still think there might be a food issue, too. So I'm thinking that I am going to use this fast as a way of kicking off a long-term experiment with food. I will try a different eating style for 30 days, keep records of how I'm doing, and then do the MC fast for a week. Then try something different for another 30 days. I've already figured that my first 30 days will be lacto-ovo vegetarianism. A week-long fast, then I'll try a dairy-free diet. I don't know what I'll do after that, but I have a real sense now that I can take conrol of my diet instead of being controlled by it. I will find some sort of eating style that works best for me.

How much weight? I genuinely don't know! My scale broke several months before I even started, so I don't know how much I was when I started, or how much I've lost since then. I can tell you, though, that I put on a skirt this morning that I'd bought a month ago, and had to take it off again. It would have fallen off of my hips at some point in the day... and I have to be in court today! That would be embarrassing. Besides, I think that scales can be very misleading when it comes to fasting. A large part of your "weight loss" is just emptying out your digestive tract (we all carry 5-10 pounds of food in various stages of digestion), so it's pounds coming off, but not really coming off in any meaningful way. And discouragingly, you'll put that same 5-10 pounds right back on pretty quickly once you start eating again... but again, that's food and NOT fat or muscle or anything else that actually affects your size. So I'm not in any great hurry to jump on a scale. I just pulled out my favorite jeans from last year and hung them on the bathroom door. I try them on every couple of days, and they're getting closer and closer to fitting again. Yay!
