Blog: Observations
I was at a health meeting tonight. Demos of raw food (dilly zucchini and strawberry pie), open group discussion, and we watched a video about positive attitudes.
During the discussion time, one lady stated that the unwillingness to change one's diet was not just ignorance. It is stubbornness and rebellion!
I believe she is right. Whether we are talking about a complete change in diet, or just incorporating one change such as juicing, this unwillingness to change, PARTICULARLY when the person is suffering from a disease and their family and friends are sharing with them how to reverse the disease, is stubbornness and rebellion. Pride and idolatry are mixed in there too, I suspect. The pride of thinking that "I can make my own decisions" and the idiolatry of doctors and favorite foods.
Wow. I never thought of it this way before, but it is becoming very clear to me that this is very much the situation many a time. To be fair, many people suffer just from lack of knowledge. When they learn the truth, they change their ways. But others hear the truth and reject it.
Some people do NOT want to know, and they do NOT want to change.

i love your post but i think there is so much more to it than just resisting change..for me i knew change was needed and i knew how to do it but it wasnt till i reached a point (not sure i can really explain that point in 50 words or less.. ha!) that i made the change happen. its not easy. and then only could i make that change happen with many many comments of encouragment. i think those who have made the change also have a responsibility to pass it on. that is what i am trying to do as many have done before me...pass it on...help those who need to change..be compassionate...i think we are all at different points in our lives but all need encouragement and support

What you said is true.
One comment on the video we watched the same night was that people don't change until the pain of change is less than the pain of continuing on in the same way.
It's different for each person, and everybody needs encouragement.
But there is stubbornness and rebellion involved sometimes, and I had never seen it that way before. I know some people, like my great-aunt who recently died, who are just plain stubborn.

You are correct that many people continue with out change; until the pain become unbarable... A better move is continually asses your position, and make the necessary changes when due...
Stubbornness can be good or bad it depends what you are stubborn about... If it is your core beliefs then it may be good.... See Ya.. k

You are right nothing in life is really simple, except loving others... Change is part of life, and we must all do it some time.... It all comes down to when and why not the who and how... So plan your steps well, see you and the flip side....
See Ya.. Kermit
