heart symptoms

I am wondering what is my best course of action to stop some rather frightening heart problems. The most common thing that happens is that when I am in bed, starting to fall asleep, I will have what feels like skipped heart beats. I will feel my heart beating (I've counted and my pulse is usually about 60 bpm) and then all of a sudden it will just slow down and there's just this emptiness for a second where there should have been a beat! It is very scary. I have been taking calcium and magnesium which seems to have helped this not happen as often, I also don't have the awareness of my heartbeat as often now either but obviously the problem is not gone. I also have chest pains occasionally but it is hard to say if this is heart related or digestion problems. Does anyone have any advice on what I should do? I really would like to stop this without having to go to the doctor but it worries me so much I may have to.
