Finasteride side effects - how to reverse them please?

Hi Tom,

This is a bit of a delicate subject, but here goes. Three years ago I took the supposed anti-baldness pill, finasteride. While it didn't grow hair, it almost chemically castrated me. I've been off for about 3 years and have yet to return to normal. I still have slight ED, low volume of ejaculate and low libido. I also find it hard to lose weight. I have discussed this with some other men on the internet and my doctor, but no-one seems to have an adequate solution. Below I have included someone's posting of his view of the matter so as to give you an idea of what may be happening. I really don't know. Thanks.

I would recommend some cycling with finasteride as it basically does to the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis as what exogenous testosterone compounds do when taken by bodybuilders. Bodybuilders sometimes never get complete function back. Why? Because you shut down cell function down for so long sometimes it never gets restored. Bodybuilders sometimes have to resort to extreme measures in order to restore gonadal functioning, such as HCG or clomiphene citrate, and even then not always does it work. Try a cycling program say 4 weeks on 1 week off, or 8 weeks on 2 weeks off. This has nothing to do with drug half-lives, but more with getting stuff back to normal prior to ever taking the drug. You'll want the most time off cycle without an increase in hairloss, is my guess, experiment.

Leydig production of testosterone is lessened through lowered LH levels that accompany finasteride use. Eventually leydig cells "learn" their new testosterone output pattern which is very low. I do not wish to argue an old argument about testosterone increases with finasteride! Yes, they exist but its doubtful (to me) that lowered LH will result in higher testosterone output, it's my belief they occur by other mechanisms. These patterns (levels of homeostasis) of course can be relearned but sometimes restarting them takes times and even then, maybe not. Studies? Can't find any, but my information is taken from doctors comments and others skilled in the art of administering steroids and bodybuilder's experiences from coming off a steroid.
