It seems like you believe the eye profession and laboratories are happy with the way things are going on for them ; doing eye surgery, selling implants, glasses or contact lenses, existing eyedrops and so forth is a very profitable business to which nothing should be changed.
This may be true, but on the other end, if eyedrops would allow to really cure cataracts in a short time, at a lower cost, wouldn't it be an other profitable way to treat them that would attract people, laboratories, ophthalmologists-that-do-not-do surgery and so on ?
I then have doubts on the fact it would be as easy as you seem to believe...
