For what it's worth, my colleague who is on a BC dosage or type (I don't know the details) that completely suppresses her period, but after taking only DE she had a normal period, which was a big shock to her. I definitely think the DE could trigger an early period or make someone have a period when they typically do not. I don't know why it happens, but it does...
