Living in modern culture and cultivating calm can seem overwhelming at times. If this is the case for you, you're in good company. Whatever your unique temperament and background may be, it's essential to find ways to decrease stress and increase serenity. Confused about the different ways to approach it? Here are several straightforward tips you can implement right now.

1. Enhance Your Sleep

This is one of the most powerful ways to improve your mood and sense of emotional stability. Make sure you're getting at least seven hours per night of shut-eye; more is even better. Put together a bedtime routine that's consistent and soothing. Limit screen time as much as possible after dinner. Pull away from mental stimulation. Take a warm bath or shower. Read something relaxing or inspiring. Want some more tips? Do a search using terms such as thrive patch for helpful resources and information.

2. Relax With Music

There's nothing quite like simple, slow music to help you relax. Not in that space yet? Consider dancing or moving to music that matches your energy level, then slowly dialing it down tempo-wise. Select sounds that have a simple texture; save the intense classical or pop music for another time. Nature or ocean sounds are effective, too.

3. Nourish Your Body

A diet that's varied, nutrient-dense, and has a balance of protein, healthy fats, phytonutrients (from vegetables), and low-glycemic carbs will keep you healthy and balance your metabolism. This will help you feel more generally relaxed and help you sleep more easily at night. Taking the occasional dessert or another treat? No problem! The main thing is to focus on eating healthy most of the time.

4. Talk To Someone

If you're feeling stressed, reach out to talk. It may be with a supportive family member or friend, a support group, or a professional. While solitude can be wonderful, it's important to balance it out with interpersonal comfort. Finding it a challenge to find this kind of help? Consider online support.

5. Find Some Humor

Did you know that laughter and humor release feel-good chemicals that decrease stress chemicals and improve your mood? Your nervous system will switch into "happy mode." Watch some silly television, get ridiculous with a friend, or go for a walk and listen to a funny podcast. You get the idea. The options are endless.

6. Focus On Mindfulness

There are many ways to do this. Find something that fits your personality and lifestyle. From yoga to tai chi, meditation to art making, numerous practices can help you move from rumination to relaxation. Find a high-quality class, practice online, or go solo. Focusing on doing one thing at a time is a helpful strategy, too.

7. Try Some Tea

A big mug of caffeinated coffee might be good for your short-term mood and energy level, but continuous ingestion of caffeinated drinks can make you feel anxious and wired. Instead, try some herbal tea. Chamomile and lavender have relaxing qualities, and ginger and turmeric can help decrease inflammation. Plus, drinking tea is a delicious, mindful, relaxing ritual.

8. Do Mindful Breathing

Are you taking short, shallow breaths? To feel calmer, do the opposite. Even focusing your attention on the rise and fall of your stomach as you breathe has beneficial effects. Fortunately, there are many techniques to try. Experiment to find out what works best for you.

9. Do Some Exercise

Sometimes, it doesn't work to sit still when you're stressed out. Exercising, even for a short time, can make a real difference in how you feel. To relax, repetitive movement is helpful. Or, you might benefit from exercise that takes a great deal of concentration. Doing a dance break or stretching at work can help you calm down, too. Any kind of exercise will release endorphins and improve your mood quickly.

Boosting your relaxation involves a willingness to modify habits and attitudes. Give these suggestions a try to feel more serene.
