Handmade Art Book: "To Be An Artist"
Had an amazing amount of fun learning out to make a mixed media art book!
Date: 5/31/2017 12:27:54 AM ( 7 y ) ... viewed 3716 times I took an art class a week ago, the first art class since I was in college! (I won't tell you how many years ago that was) I had so much FUN, learning how to make a mixed media art journal --paper, glue, paint, magazine pictures, washi tape, stencils, and whatever embellishments you want to put on it! I worked on it at home for an entire week after the class, and here it is:
"To Be an Artist" cover; mixed media art book mayah(c)2017
The entire book is approximately 8" X 6" and is over an inch thick. The pages are held together with waxed thread; to keep the book closed, the long thread is wrapped around the outside. I put colored beads on the ends of the thread, representing the four elements of fire (red), air (white), water (blue) and brown (earth). The two beads on the other thread end represent plant beings (green) and animal beings (tan).
The instructor, Kelly Kilmer**, uses her art books as journals, inking words with colored ink pens, but I decided to make mine into a themed book, hence the title "To Be An Artist".

++I wish to thank my friend "Your Enchanted Gardener" Leslie Goldman, whose keen eye for the beauty of nature graces his photographs. I have been fortunate to have received some of these photos on greeting cards over the years, as well as many gift packs of organic seeds. Leslie, I hope you approve of what I've done with them! ...And special thanks to my friend and fellow mixed media artist LFIRE for the ongoing encouragement to create art, the courage to call myself an artist, the inspiration that her art work gives me, the gifts of her art all through the year, not to mention the trinkets, stuff, things, and junk she snail mails to me, some of which ended up on the pages of this book!
