How curious that the article clearly does not allow any comments! However, I believe that the subject matter merits public opinion. The article talks about one man's vision to add a graphic symbol to menus that represents the "expert" assessment of whether (or not) the item on the menu is "healthy" for you. Part of the criteria for that assessment is is whether or not any butter or cream is included in the ingredients of that item. The criteria for this rating bans butter as a healthy ingredient. Menu items with butter have to be reworked to eliminate the butter before thy can get the coveted rating. The same disqualification appears to extend to cream as well. The "experts" appear to be certified dieticians and the like.
"You’ll see this beautiful logo,” Mr. Verstraeten ... What does it mean? You’ll know that it’s a trusted symbol. It means it’s good for you and very tasty."
I call this "baloney"!
"Mr. Verstraeten’s dream is to see that crimson logo appear on menus around the world — at fast-food stands and four-star palaces, on cruise ships and in college cafeterias. Should there come a day when a giant global chain like McDonald’s signs on, 'I’m going to become very rich,' said Mr. Verstraeten, who goes by Manu. 'That’s my target, of course.'"
That say it all! This is not about making you healthier.
Instead - long standing traditional foods like butter and cream (classic, integral, traditional ingredients for innumerable dishes) are conveniently denigrated by way of a "crimson" mark, invented by one individual who imagines he knows what's most healthy for the world!
This deserves a penetrating look into the constellations of megalomania within the psyche!
