Possibly the Quickest, Easiest, Most Economical and Even a Most Interesting Way to Learn What Nutrient-Dense Foods Are!
The Weston A. Price Foundation's "Shopping Guide" is now available in an app!
Date: 12/30/2009 3:03:46 AM ( 15 y ) ... viewed 1882 times The Weston A. Price Foundation publishes a "Shopping Guide" each year and the 2012 guide is now available! The guide has grown steadily over the last decade and is now a 103 page booklet that can still easily fit in a purse or back pocket. The price of this very informative guide is a whopping one and only one single Federal Reserve Note! IMO this has got to be one of the most economical ways to learn about nutrient-dense foods! You could take this handy little guide with you every time you go to a food market and learn what food products may be rated in the three category rating system for all kinds of real foods.
For instance on pages 14, 15 and 16 you can find the Best Butter; 61 sources in all! However, in this category it may that only a couple sources are available in local food markets (in California). Most all of these sources come with phone numbers so you can place a direct order. I have been ordering raw dairy and lots of butter from a farm in Wisconsin that is listed.
In the "Avoid" category are things like "Margarines and spreads, partially hydrogenated vegetable oil; shortenings; spreads combining butter with vegetable oils" and even whipped butter.
There are over four pages on "Aged Cheese",
7 pages on "Fats and Oils", 4 on "Seafood", 6 on "Fresh Meat", over 2 pages on "Pemmican and Jerky", 4 pages on "Beverages" as well as a page devoted to "Cod Liver Oil and High Vitamin Fish Oils". A grand total of thirty different food categories! It literally covers everything, in the way of real food, from "soup to nuts". The subtitle reads: "For Finding the Healthiest Foods in Supermarkets, Health Food Stores and by Mail Order". You can add "Local Farms" to that list as well!

Tell them Chef Jem encouraged you! I promise you it'll be the best "single" investment you have made (since the day that silver no longer backed the Federal Reserve Notes)!

The Shopping Guide includes a section on "Grains and Legumes" plus one on Nuts and Seeds". On page 55 we read: " All grains should be soaked in an acidic medium to minimize enzyme inhibitors and phytic acid."
Jon Barron says: "... if you soak or sprout your beans or grains (etc.) as you should, they generate their own phytases at levels sufficient to break down the phytates for optimized utilization of nutrients.":
