Riots over rising food prices... and so it starts
Riots over rising food prices are signs of the times, and future?

In poor nations around the world, people are starting to riot violently over the rising price of food. Where the price of food is a crucial element in the basic survival of people, riots should be expected. Haiti, Egypt, Uzbekistan, Ivory Coast all had riots recently, and riots in Cameroon in February left 40 people dead.
Riots by the poorer groups of people lead to them being put in prisons, probably many will die, and eventually, genocide of an economic class of people.
Food prices going up like they have in 2007 and 2008 were predictable enough, due to the biofuels industry demand for corn crops. Biofuels are being heavily subsidized, which has created the economics that have encouraged farmers to grow corn for fuel.
There is no actual reason for the food prices to HAVE to rise... production costs and so on are all the same as they were 5 years ago It is just the "futures bidding", like with gasoline, that is seeing these artificial shortages due to biofuels, and so they have bid the price of food up, and passed those "costs" along in the prices consumers pay.
The rising food prices situation is artificial. It doesn't NEED to be this way, but governments are doing all they can to make sure it does happen this way. Sometimes, governments have been known to do things that help the average, or starving, people. This time, it is for the corporations and financial services industries that are being helped.
Of course, some thinking people might at least wonder if this is the start of a big move toward a sudden population reduction, a "killing off of the poor". So many Americans suddenly without a house to live in, and rising costs of living in a collapsing economy, means Americans are not immune from this move towards crushing the poor. Health care cannot be depended on to serve large numbers of sick or injured people either, unless you have lots of money left after losing your house.
There are some ominous signs of survival problems ahead. Global warming is not being addressed, even now that they know that we know that it is real... and so it is being "encouraged", and not just for the opportunity of selling more oil - global warming will wipe out the poor. Drought is a certainty as the atmosphere holds onto the moisture [warm air] and then crops will fail, water will be scarce, even wildlife will be gone. There will be few options for even the toughest survivalists.
But hey, don't let me get you down... there is going to be a revolution, thats what happens when the rich push the poor too far, and we have been patient. The victory over the present wealthy corporate ruling class, and then the victory of addressing climate change, will be the greatest of victories in many centuries, perhaps of all time. We should start as soon as possible though, before climate change gets too established - the first step is probably political, so be carefull who you allow to represent you when you vote, and maybe we need to do more that vote differently....
