The facts of "the two raw milks" are are beginning to come into main stream awareness. I believe this will positively fuel the movement towards more local, raw, grass-fed small dairies!

This distinction -- between raw milk that's destined for pasteurization and raw milk from a small, spotlessly clean dairy that's kept to higher standards precisely because the milk won't be pasteurized -- is a crucial one, and it's lost on public health officials ... who seem to lump all raw milk into the same pathogen-contaminated vat. Industrial farms are dirty -- as the recent agri-exposés "Fast Food Nation" and "The Omnivore's Dilemma" have proved. When (public health officials) think of raw milk, in other words, (they're) thinking of milk from cows crowded together in barns, eating a diet of corn, and standing in their own manure. All the raw milk advocates I spoke to are against drinking this type of raw milk. ..."

February 6, 2019 - The positive effect of on-farm food safety producer training -

Researchers Dr. Joanne Whitehead and Bryony Lake noted the positive effect of on-farm food safety producer training in their recent peer-reviewed publication listed on PubMed. They concluded that recent “introduction of on-farm food safety training programs for unpasteurized milk producers may be a factor in the recent decline in outbreak rates.” They reported a 357% increase in raw milk production permits in the USA from 2005 to 2017; meanwhile, there was a notable reduction in raw milk-related illnesses. These trends sharply contradict the current CDC position that “more raw milk illnesses could be expected with more states legalizing raw milk and more producers producing it”.

In fact, the exact opposite has occurred. This is in part credited to work done by RAWMI and others. If you are a RAWMI LISTED producer, some of your test data was used in this study. Raw milk safety is a reflection of the clean RAMP practices used at each dairy. We have shown that there are two kinds of raw milk: One for the People (that’s us) and One for the Pasteurizer!

Another year of high-quality milk research was shared at the International Milk Genomics Consortium conference on November 13-15, 2018 in Sacramento, California. and covered topics including:

Gut microbiome changes that occur with raw milk consumption and breast feeding,
Newly discovered role of raw milk sugars as they feed the good bacteria and starve the bad,
Changes in the gut microbiome pH and populations of bacteria, from 1913 to the present,
and how it is negatively affected by pasteurization of breast milk from donor banks,
Effects on milk enzymes and specialized milk sugars when heated,
Important health values found in milk fat globules, and
New rapid pathogen test technologies (www.CibusDX.com) that detect 4 human pathogens of most concern on-farm in 30 minutes.

The science of milk genomics is extremely complex and, at times, unfathomable. However, the researchers were able to explain in scientific terms why raw milk is unique, as well as why and how it changes dramatically when heated, spray dried or pressure processed.[1]
